MPC5000 reviews, bug reports and fellow user support on the most recent standalone, hardware MPC from Akai

If a maschine stand alone doesn't motivate numark / akai, then they're really not in the game. I said it before and I'll say it again... Make the ren a mid level solution, and make a hybrid as the top line. That's really the only way to compete at this point - regardless of what NI does next. If NI goes in the stand alone / hybrid direction, and akai hasn't anticipated enough to get in that game, it's lights out.

Would love to see it from akai, and I'd be willing to invest in it.

Doubt they would have anticipated it, and be ready to counter in any way.

I would be waiting a long time to make sure it gets sorted, based on past experiences, not sure they could do it.

This is enough reason for Numark to wake up!

Confirmable evidence aside, it's not entirely impossible. They're getting $999 for the top model right now, they make interfaces. I know for a fact that people we on this forum are acquainted with talk to NI on a regular basis. For example on Facebook pages the question of what do you want for a 2.0 Maschine was asked numerous times by people I know talk to NI. A lot of folks said jog wheel coming from MPCs. Boom there it is.

It's not inconceivable they add an i7 CPU and 8GB of RAM (hopefully user expandable) and put one out at $1500-$1700 in what was the $2500 street price for a while.

If it sold well enough, they would really make Akai look foolish.

Yeah, and I'm surprised that statement hasn't gone viral on this board.

Either way, someone needs to send that video clip to akai and ask them to please get it together. Lol. It would make them look pretty bad if NI got there first, and got there better.

But I don't think it's just akai not getting it together. I don't believe they have much resources at their disposal. I imagine a cash and resource strapped group within numark that doesn't have much say in corporate direction or investment. The revenue they do generate probably doesn't get reinvested into the mpc line. It probably gets split across the numark portfolio. I've worked for a software company that was purchased, but our product line continued forward. But after that sale we never had the resources to develop the software to the point we had envisioned, because the profits were no longer ours, they went to the owning company. We slowly started to fall behind the competition, and a few years later we as a group demanded to be sold off to another company, or let us buy our independence back. It was a good move to sell to them at first. We envisioned an infusion of investment that would push the product like never before. But when we got there, not so much.

I can imagine akai going through the same. Probably don't have the money to buy back their independence, so falling further and further behind the competition, trying every low cost alternative to revitalize the line. A lot of companies go through it. Some make it out. Some don't.

And I'll say it again... Ren should be mid tier, and a hybrid should be next on deck as top line!!! Want to revitalize? That's a healthy alternative. Question is, do they have the resources and numark support to do it? Do they even WANT to do it? Surely this video should make think long and hard about it.

Wouldn't even have to sell well IMO. Just showing the vision and discipline to pull it off. They would have effectively been able to pull akai out of their lane and start following NI, only for NI to move back into akai's with a better product. Foolish is right, because it would make akai look like they've been standing still, clinging to their "iconic" history while they lapped them several times on the track. That's called getting owned.

Resources or not it,s Numark total disregard to it's users. I've contacted them numerous times to only get BS answers. Then finally good news! "Before the release of Ran a update for the 5000 will be released". Still waiting...

There are enough ways to get funds like crowdfunding. How come a Indie game developer consisting of two individuals releases games? Just work with us to get things done.

Yes, I was asking on their community support forum for details on what some of the MPC settings options actually do.

Was told to go make music, rather than worry about what the settings I was asking about are meant to do, by an Akai support employee.

It seems there isn't even any form of communication between their support staff and developers, in terms of providing support and real answers to users.
