track mute glitch

I'm crossposting this from the jjos forum because I've narrowed it down to hardware. I've had this issue for a while and it's driving me up a wall.

I depend on the track/pad mute screen a lot to bring tracks in and out of the mix quickly throughout a song. Lately I've been getting a really odd glitch where, seemingly out of nowhere, samples start getting triggered at random, at various pitches and often in reverse. Meanwhile, samples already in the mix get randomly truncated.

It's really difficult to pin down but it seems to occur when there are a lot of tracks in play (though not in all cases, and it doesn't stop when you stop the sequence).

I had this issue a while back before I replaced a bad q-link slider. I thought that did the trick but the beast is back. Little help?

I've also had issues recently with the unit suddenly spitting out static at maximum velocity along with a bunch of glitchy sounds that I have no idea where they came from. It's getting to where I regret buying this piece of junk, it's an albatross around my neck at this point

ye.. and which OS you got? Could you put here some audio of this glitch?

I'm running jjos 2xl but this occurs in all versions as well as akai OS. Will try to get some audio up here.

Well If it's on all.. I don't know.. maybe try to re-seat your RAM. I know on older OS's there was a glitch where it was playing back random samples from RAM, very distorted and slowed down so at first you couldn't tell it were your samples.. but it was only happening when you put a very short loop on a sample. It was fixed at some point.

The last issue i mentioned sounds even more wacky, will upload audio if I can get it to happen (it's very sporadic whereas the trackmute thing is pretty reproducible).

e: I've tried messing with the ram in every conceivable way and that doesn't help. If anything it's the pcb the ram connects to, though I would have no clue how to test that.

Would it even be worth it to take it to the repair shop? I paid 400 for the mpc already, don't really want to pay that much again just to (maybe) fix it.

holy **** sounds like a .jpg forced to .wav but anyway, I can't help you with internals, have you tried without RAM?

If it does the same with the RAM removed, using the 16MB onboard RAM, maybe a replacement mainboard would be the best way to go, $295 from mpc-stuff.

Not sure if a repair center could fix it, or what they would charge, impossible to know how much time, what the cost per hour would be, how much in parts, etc.

Well I feel like an idiot that it never occurred to me in the 2 months I've been dealing with this, but I rana couple sequences with no ram and so far it's smooth sailing. Thanks folks fingers crossed it stays this way.....

Possibly bad RAM, or cold solder joint on RAM socket.

Well, I've purchased and tested two more new sticks of ram and nothing has worked. They failed in different ways though--one just wouldn't pass the mem test or boot up, the other manifested similar white-noise symptoms (much more severe and immediate).

The ram socket looks fine--no cold joints that I can see.

There's a repair shop that will take a look at it for not too much, considering bringing it by tomorrow.
