If you upgrade your pc system to windows 7 64bit, can you still use some of your old vsts that are not 64bit, or is there a workaround for this

If your daw has a built in bit bridge the answer is generally yes. FL and Cubase have this, Logic I think dropped it on version 10.

Then there's Jao Fernandez's jbridge for about $30USD. That one scans your plugins and makes 'wrapped' versions to solve the issue.

Yes, you have to run MPC Software in 32 bit mode, but then can only access the 32 bit plugins, and not the 64 bit plugins.

You can't use both at once.

But if talking in general, not specific to MPC Software, then as Meta says above, you need a bridge to run 32 bit plugs in a 64 bit DAW.

I have no hands on experience but I don't see why 64 bit Ren wouldn't run the wrapped 32 bit plugins if you had jbridge. It's not 100% when I use it in various hosts but the ones it fails on are mostly really old, synthedit freeware or those few retail plugs that have issues anyway.

Also you can have jbridge run it's host process separately so if a plugin does crash your whole session just doesn't go down.

Have not tried it in MPC Software myself, but I thought I read someone else saying it didn't work, but not really sure.

We'll just blame Akai if that's the case.

Seriously I have good results in FL and Live with jbridge, and Jao is so supportive he will make you a custom build if you can explain your specific issue.

Correct me if I'm wrong but 64 bit windows is backwards compatible...in the past only issue I'd run into was with drivers if they weren't designed for 64bit os

64 bit Windows might be backwards compatible, but plugins, not necessarily, has to have support written in the application, or a bridge used, I think.

Precisely the VST/.dll spec is an exception to most OS backward compatibility.

It's the same as the driver thing essentially. It's really more that the host is processing data in specific 32 or 64 bit sized chunks. And also that 64 bit uses the more advanced SSE instruction that the newer 64 bit CPU's are capable of for the most efficient multi threading.

Which is why you used to see me raising high hell in the "Ren needs 64 bit" threads, just trying to make this under the hood stuff clear so people would know why they needed to barrage Akai until they got 64 bit operation.

Again either your DAW/Host sorts it with a built in solution or just pay $30 and it's 90-99% fixed depending on what plugs you have.
