Using MPC1000 JJOS1 with Reason help~

Yes, if Reason is responding to a pad press from the MPC, then the MIDI connection from the MPC into Reason sounds like it is working.

Check with Snoize MIDI Monitor to see exactly what MIDI messages are getting into the computer from the MPC, a MIDI activity light on the interface will not necessarily mean the message is getting from the interface, through the MIDI driver, into the computer.

Reason only responds to certain pads when I go to manually add it to keyboards and control surfaces. I will get Snoize, but I have no idea what to check.


I had an MPK mini the USB port fell off. I just opened it up and taped it back on. It works again, but when i tired to add it reason wouldn't pick it up at all. Should i reinstall reason because the MPK use to work like a charm before tooks seconds to add.

This is what happened when I hit all 64 pads one time

That is showing that the computer is receiving MIDI Timecode and possibly MIDI Machine Control from the MPC.

You do not want to use MTC or MMC, unless you are trying to synchronise the MPC sequencer to the Reason sequencer.

It does not seem to be sending any MIDI note on/off messages from the MPC pads to the computer.

It should show a MIDI note on message when you hit a pad, along with a MIDI note off message when you release the pad.

It is either something not setup correctly on the MPC, to send MIDI out from the active track, or something like that, or maybe something not set correctly in Apple Audio MIDI Setup.


An MPK with a taped on USB port is not a good reason to reinstall Reason. You need to solder that USB port back on, properly, not tape it on, FFS!

I have no solder. I reinstalled it anyways -_-. How should everything be setup?

Using tape to connect a broken USB port is not going to work.


You need to setup the MPC so that the pads are outputting MIDI note on/off messages to the computer, before you should be worrying about reinstalling and setting up anything in Reason.


Go into MPC pad mode 9 and turn off MIDI Timecode, MIDI Machine Control, any other sync settings for any MPC inputs and outputs, and anything else you have changed in there.


On the MPC Main Screen, make sure the active track is set to MIDI, not set to DRUM. Set PC to OFF, and set MIDI to 1A. Make sure that the MPC MIDI output A is connected to the computer MIDI interface input.

The active track section of your MPC Main Screen should look like this, except with an OFF below PC, instead of the 3 that is shown highlighted below PC in this image...

Notice that is has MIDI above the large 1 on the left of the active track, and it has 1A below MIDI on the right of the active track.

Then see what Snoize MIDI Monitor displays when you hit MPC pads.

Sync in is off so in sync out. everything in midi is off. active track is set to all. my main screen is just like you told me to set it up as.

Hit all 64 pads once

Try setting MIDI Soft Thru to AS TRACK, instead of OFF, on this screen...

If you are seeing that the computer is receiving MTC and Song Position Pointer data, when you hit MPC pads, as it appears to be in your MIDI Monitor screenshots above, something is not right.


Have you tried resetting your MPC, by holding down the ERASE button when powering it up?

Is sync turned off for MIDI output B, as well as MIDI output A?

Are you connecting MIDI output A or MIDI output B from the MPC to the computer?


Is there anything shown as connected to the M-Track MIDI inputs in Apple Audio MIDI Setup Utility, in the MIDI setup window, and if so, maybe delete that.

No I have not tired that, but I will now.


Here is my Audio MIDI Setup screen. I did have an interface before the M audio one. It made me install some weird driver thing that made me restart, but I cannot locate the driver at all on my HD.
