Ok. so i got an MPC 1000 the other day and it already had a reccomended 80gb toshiba hard drive already in it but it wasn't recognized. Then i found another one cheap that was used and probably still has data on it from previous use and it does not recognize either now or give me the option to format it. Any Suggestions? Does the hardrives need wiping prior? Do i have a faulty connection? Am i too much of a noob? HELP!

You got format it on MPC, not on computer over USB. It's somewhere in load/save screens, look up in manual where is the format window.

Ya, ive tried two different HD that came out of used laptops that were working. Maybe its something to do with the tray....its not recognizing anything in the slot....bugger! Could it be JJOS?

I forget the specific stats but it be needs to an older IDE drive and it was usually a max of 149GB (160GB on the listed size) The 149 ones format at 120 or 125GB. So you must have hit on one that matches the general laptop spec from about 10 years ago, which is what they 1k and 2500 need.

For a machine with only 128MB you are never gonna run out of space and could easily put half a million drum hits and chops on it. :-D

+1 there Metatron72, had my 100gb HHD since 08 and I reckon it only about 20% or so full :smoker:
