Midi setup

Hello all,

I was wondering if you guys could assist me with connecting my hardware. I have the following

* MPC 1000
* Triton
* Planet Phatt sound module
* M-audio 4X4 midi interface
* Yamaha Mixer

What I would like to to is sequence on the MPC and then track out to Ableton live and add different sounds from ableton. I had everything hooked up. On the MPC 1000 I have 2 midi in and 2 midi outs. I want to be able to get the most out of my hardware. Any help will be appreciated.

I'm pretty tired at the moment so I can't go into a detailed MIDI plot. But I will say this - Ableton is probably your Ace in the hole here.

You've got the Live External Instrument plugin you can drop on a track. That has Audio+MIDI in one neat track. The if you have "View In/Outs" activated in Live you have the pull down arrow boxes for all your audio/MIDI tracks' routing internally or externally right at your fingertips.

This is great because it makes it so easy to essentially use Ableton as a MIDI patch bay. You could have the Triton hooked to the M-audio going to Ableton but still have Ableton send MIDI from the Triton keys into the MPC if you need a keyboard for any MPC PGMs. Then do the E-MU straight to the MPC or Live.

You didn't say if you have an audio interface, but either or you have the mixer to have all you audio outs neatly arranged.

I'm sure you'll get more replies that will detail specifics. But just off top I think you have some good versatility with the 2 MPC MIDI outs and the luxury of 4 MIDI I/O ports on the M-Audio. And Live's MIDI routing might let you avoid a more complex physical MIDI cable arrangement and not have to use MIDI thru as much.
