vintage mode and choppin questions

wassup folks thinking about copping a ren but got a couple questions first,

can you still use the vintage mode hack? ie. use the different modes as normal effects

also when chopping samples are the chops smooth like jjos chops? (with no clicks at the ends)

Haven't tried the hack. But the last time anyone tried it, it was pretty buggy and not worth the effort..

Not sure what you mean by jjos chops, as i use non destruc chops...

If you mean that when you chop on jjos it auto fades the ends of each chop? Then the ren doesn't do it by my knowledge....

Unless someone can chime in?

To my understanding, you could apply a global setting within the realm of ADSR like a decay for example. So with very little effort you can still have smooth ending chops. This has been my experience thus far.

The chopping algorithm in the MPC software is currently flawed as it leaves a small click at the end of most regions even in a nice cleanly separated break. It also doesn't have the stretch feature you'd find in Recycle ( which adds a small amount of decay to the end of the chop, similar to the way jjos and even Akai OS on legacy mpcs do things).

To smooth the ends of of your chops in the mpc software, the easiest way is to fiddle with the release setting in the envelope of any pad you assign the chops to (select ALL so all pads are edited simultaneously). However, this is type of release is subtractive, it uses existing sample data and reduces it to produce the fade, so you increase the chances of your chops sounding 'choppy'.

The methods employed by Recycle and jjos are 'additive', to produce a smooth fade they add additional sample data to the existing chop and fade that extra audio.

thanks for the feedback peeps, but the thought of going back to clicky sample chops like the old akai os in my 1000 is swaying me towards just upgrading my 1000 pads and sticking with jjos
