Thanks for your reply, I actually just want to be sure I can move a whole beat with all required files, and make it play just as it was on my floppies, with all the sequences, song, programs etc.. Please let me know if you can achieve that with the sandisk. I got a 1gb and a 512Mb, I guess they should work just fine.

peace

Damn. I just can't make it work. I think i made all connections ok, and i even tried with a second reader i ordered. I tried with 2 sandisk cards, both 2gb. I wonder if 2gb card are working with this reader. I have a 512 somewhere.. I'll try with this tomorrow.
Could there be any other issue?
Thanks

What model is the reader?

Are you sure that the IDE cable is oriented so that pin 1 on the MPC IDE connector is connected to pin 1 on the CF reader connector?

Are you running OS 1.20?

Are you inserting the card before you power up the MPC, and then trying to choose an IDE device in the format screen to format?

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, I double checked all that.
Ide cable is ok, pin 1 is marked on the reader, and on the main board pin one is pointing to the rear if the mp.
I installed os 1.2 the other day.
Reader is set to master.
Both my sandisk cards where formatted on a mp.
But still says "no floppy device ! !" Those exclamtion points are irritating haha
I have to mount a reader in anorher mpc this w-end, so i'll know if that's the mpc
I guess the issue comes from the power or the ide slot..

that's the ide cable I'm using, I ordered it with the reader, as the old ide cable for the floppy doesn't fit the reader.
http://www.addonics.com/products/aaide80-8.php

I haven't tried with another one yet, maybe it's just a defective cable, but that sounds weird. I'll try with another cable when I'll be back home.

i made a pic sorry it's a shitty iphone pic a made this morning.. :-|

 Old IDE cable for the floppy doesn't fit because it is a floppy cable, it is not an IDE cable. IDE is the type of hard disk interface.

Bit hard to tell from the photo, but it looks like it might be an 80 wire/40 pin IDE cable.

And from the Addonics product code for the cable, aaide80-8, the 80 most likely means 80 wires, 8 means 8 inch, so I think that might be the problem.

Maybe see if you have a 40 wire/40 pin IDE cable and give it a go.

Power cable only has the 2 wires, one for ground and one for 5V, without the 12V connected, but most card readers are OK with that, as they don't use the 12V line, so should be OK.

Otherwise, it looks OK, just make sure there are no bent pins in the CF slot, that it is set to master, and you are inserting the card before powering up the MPC.

f*** it yeah, you're right, that's a 80 wire/40 pin IDE cable. I just didn't know about that. Got to get another ide cable, and I'll try this at home :)
thanks Simon

edit: finally had time to work on this issue again. Ordered a 40pin cable and everything works fine now. :P

Pissed newbie here!! I freakin wait damn near my whole life to get a MPC(2000XL) and when I do it decides to freeze after a couple of minutes. Obviously this is the MCD(hot swappable) drive that came already installed from mpcstuff.com. Am I wrong? It reads my 1 and 2GB compact flash cards and soon as I start assigning sounds to pads or attempt to save it freezes, so I get nothing done. This is killing me because Ive been working on computers for about 10yrs and I am SOOO tired of premeditating music. I miss beating pads and the closest Ive ever came to a MPC is a SP505. Ive waited forever for this day and I cant even lock some drum sounds in just to play SMFH!!!! :WTF:

Ok, so now that I've had my rant.... :smoker: as of late December is there any fix for this? I've dis/re connected every thing, changed IDE cable around, etc. Do I need different CF drive or is there another MCD thats reliable? Arrrggghh this was such a tease after waiting to recieve it, then THIS happens....grrrrr

:hmmm: Are you using an 80 wire/40 pin cable with it, as shown a few posts above? If so, try a 40 wire/40 pin cable.

What sort of memory cards are you trying it with, and do you have any others you can test with? SanDisk seem to have the best results.

I took an 80 out and put in a 40....still same thing. I used the 1gb flash card that came with it and also 2GB SanDisk Ultra II. If I wasnt a grown man I'd cry...lol!!

Are you formatting the cards in the MPC before trying to use them?

Not really sure, maybe try popping out any RAM and see how it goes with the on-board 2MB?

Are you running MPC OS 1.14 or 1.20?

The MPC comes with 2MB of onboard RAM, and has two SIMM slots for extra RAM.

Maybe the SIMM connection is dirty, or not making correct contact in some way, or is bad in some way.

Thought it couldn't hurt to try removing it to test it without it.

Just be careful, as it is easy to break off the small white plastic clips that hold the SIMMs in place.
