Bug reports & end-user support for Akai's MPC Software 'controllers' including the new MPC Studio 2, the MPC Touch, MPC Renaissance & original MPC Studio and MPC StudioB lack.

Hello

I'm new MPC user. Few days ago I bought a brand new MPC Studio. First I installed drivers, software and MPC content, then I updated software to 1.5 and also I updated firmwire. I didn't have any problems with installing firmwire. When I installed firmwire appeared window: »The update has been sent. Please check your device for status. You may to restart the device for the update process to complete.«
Then I started to work on a MPC and the problems began. It worked normal for about half an hour. And then MPC just froze. But software works properly, so I could save my project. Then I just switch MPC off and on, and again start a software and everything works normal. But just for some time. Sometimes it works properly for about 2 hours and then freezes, sometimes it freezes in about 5 minutes. But always freezes just the hardware, not the software.
Maybe someone else had similar problems? Do you have any solution for my problem?

Thank you for answering.

I have never had this happen on my Mac, but on my Windows box it does happen from time to time. I would assume you are on Windows. If it is a newer computer it may have USB 3.0 ports, and the Studio is a 2.0 device, if that is the case try plugging it in a 2.0 slot. (I don't have a choice on my Surface Pro 2).....

What is happening is the Studio is loosing connection with the software/computer. Sometimes all I have to do us unplug the Studio, and plug it back in. Other times I have to do what you do...... Other times, I don't have the problem at all..... can drive you nuts!

You assumed well, I have Windows 7 and I have plugged MPC in 3.0 USB slot. Today I plugged it in 2.0 slot and it worked well. I hope that it will work now on.

Thank you for help :)

Does your Mac have USB 3.0 slots? I'm wondering if this is an OS problem or a hardware problem because all my Mac has are USB 3.0 slots.

Yes, that is an interesting question.

Everything is moving to USB 3.

Have Akai made products that are incompatible at a hardware level with USB 3, or can the issues be fixed with software?

I went into this on another thread, but of course was ignored..... USB 3.0, no matter what they say, is not 100% compatible with 2.0. It is for 99 percent of general use products like printers, drives...etc... but not for more specialized products. Audio devices are such products. Apple saw the problem and patched it about midway in Mountain Lions reign, and now of course in Mavs. Windows, geared more to business, does not seem to care much and so no patch or update. My Macbook Pro works fine, but I do plug the Ren into a 2.0 port, just because :)

It is not just the Ren, many 2.0 audio devices will have random problems when plugged into a 3.0 port. It is hard to figure out, because it is so random.

On a positive note for Windows, I got the latest update for my Surface Pro 2, and it seems to have helped the issue. Now I can do a reboot, and go an hour or so....

I hope the OP problem is solved. If not, at least it may have helped and they can further research it.....

Good to know and it's a little reassuring. I'm considering a Studio but I don't know yet. I want to see what happens in 1.6 first. Thanks BremenCole.

Yes, as I said, Apple fixed the issue with an update.... Microsoft did not.

Are either one of you two using Mavericks?
By BremenCole Sun Dec 15, 2013 2:21 pm
I am not. The USB 3.0 issue is also fixed on Mavs, but from what I understand there could be other problems. I of course do not know from personal experience if that is the case.

I am staying with Mountain Lion (fully updated) for now. It works, and there are no features in Mavs that I am interested in. I seldom use my Macbook for anything but audio, and since in works perfectly for me, I do not wish to change it.....

DO NOT up grade to mavericks yet. And I would hold off on buying an akai product at this moment. Akai is in complete disarray with these driver updates. It's been two months and still no word from these guys. Many many user posts on their forum needs to be read before spending your slave money on one of these newer units. I like my ren when I don't have to do "work arounds".

OP what's with the unoriginal name? I never understood why people name themselves after another artist. My first thought when seeing this happen. Is if you can't think of a distinctive name to define your self, I don't see you creating a sound that will distinguish you from the other 16th note repeater robots.

Really upbeat and positive vibe there....

I tried to word it nicely. Guess it was too much
