Damn I had a post that is probably in a sin-binned thread about that EXACT concept of a 4kxle...

Shit was dope but the thread became a pissing contest so I'm not typing it again.

The next 12 months will be interesting for Akai.

If they truly are interested in a 4000 extension (which I think would be awesome), they'll have to find a way to generate revenue from it for years to come. IMO, that's one of the problems they have now... once that initial sales cycle is complete, they don't generate more revenue from it, hence the pattern of moving on to something else after a couple years.

With a new hybrid model based on the 4000, how could they continue to generate revenue from it after the initial sales cycle, and even from the second hand sales? Gotta be a way to continue to upgrade it, or perhaps just have paid OS updates from the jump.

Before they'd move in this type of direction, I think that's one of the challenges they'd have to solve.

There is that one hurdle yes. I fear this from Akai -

Why you think you get new hardware MPC ? No...no...

@Lamp. I have no idea what goes through Creative Labs minds. Imagine you own every E-MU and Ensoniq sound, you have every design doc and schematic. The people who did the hardware and sound design are totally alive and may need work. (Google Digital Sound Factory. The owner is one the OG E-MU guys)

And all they want to do is make cheap USN keyboards, basic interfaces and frigging Soundblasters.... :hmmm: :WTF:

I think thats a tough sell. Roger makes it seem as if he rather fall on his sword than to work with them. Its like an avenue brawl... "That fool owes me money!" know what I'm saying?!
But on the other hand maybe if they paid him back residuals that they ganked him for years back there may be some promise. Money Talk BS walk!

Stand alone hardware mpc with usb/thunderbolt connectivity that works with the software... (assignable outputs from and to daw. Multi timbral both ways to daw)
Every button is a function button rather than dedicated and can be customisable to what you want...(default is stand mpc functions as previous design)

A true flagship model with 16 assignable analog outs, 4 midi outs , two midi in, adat out, .. usb hub.....

ha I could go on for a dream monster mpc model ... But i wont..

I think Akai is in a good position to do something different, and now is the time.
Maschine Flagship controller is out and presents pretty much of the same thing but with an attractive hardware piece and improved workflow

but none of these hybrid controllers work stand alone.. I think Akai has a chance to be the first to implement these kind of features.. before N.I beats them to it lol

if you think about it.. they can update the controllers to mk2, and have much improved software etc.. but your still in Maschines territory and still playing catchup..

I think Akai's 2.0 update needs to be impactfull and bigger then the Maschine 2.0 hype

Not really. Envelopes on ASR10 had more than A.D.S.R. (4 values to edit), what was it like 7 points.

Transwaves was a thing I used alot, I'd like to have it in newer gear if I could.

Non destructive chopping, ie. copy params (logical copy of the original sample, non destructive) or copy data + params (true copy of orignal sample).

Active record/sample/line in L+R that can be used just like a mixer line in, or ASR10 can be used as a passthrough effects box. I've used that alot too when I had my 2kxl L+R main outs going into the ASR10 and ASR10 main outs into my audio interface.
Audio from both machines were summed together and only L+R from the ASR10 was needed.

RAMTRACKS/SCSITRACKS was really a name for audio tracks.

Layering was confusing a bit with so many Wavesamples running around but 8 layers per track was a great great thing. It's like stacking 8 keyboards on top of each other and when you press C2 on the top one all C2's below trigger as well, * LAYERS! 4k has 4 zones/layers. And this was all done without midi layering.

ASR10's "before it's time" features would be NICE inside an update MPC4000. There are more things I'd like from the ASR10 in the ASR4000 but you see my point.

How is this any different to an MPC4000, doesn't it already do all of the above?
