I want to use my midi keyboard to play out some chords, I haven't quite got it down on the Ren yet. Its not a USB board but a plain Yamaha DS8. I got it in the Ren's midi port but I don't know what to set it to or if I need to do anything in the software to get it going. I did come across the settings to hook up a USB but like I said its only midi. Any word of wisdom would be appreciated. Didn't get any help from the manual.

I use only USB keyboards, but I do have at least a little help until someone else comes along wit more real world experience.

I don't know if you are on Mac or PC, but get to the preferences and click midi. I assume you would go to midi port a, and in the drop down see your keyboard. Click on it and you should be good to go.

If you connected your keyboard in the Midi In port A, you need to activate the Midi In A in the prefs as BremenCole Said. But you can“t see your keyboard listed since Midi I/O transmit only Midi data.

Additionnaly, be sure to send Midi via the Midi Out of your keyboard, and that the Midi channel on your keyboard is set to All or to the right number corresponding to the program or Instrument you want to control on the MPC.

Hope that helps !
