pioneer djm 500 for sampling

hello all

what do you think of a djm 500 for sampling?

been djing on this and djm 800. as a djing mixer it certainly does not shine, the 500

how do you find it for sampling? what do you think of its pres?

any other recommendations?

its for sale now but i was thinking its not bad for sampling records and may keep it

I don't use mixers anymore, always some air and static coming in sooner or later. I use a recording preamp rack where you connect all your audio sources and sends it into the sampler. I twist a knob to switch between turntable or CD and tape. It has EQ and cut switches to boost up the sound so the sample gets thick. Its all I use between the sampler and the speakers. Raw dog style.

It's probably worth avoiding the 500 unless it's in good shape. I bought mine new in 1997 (I think) and kept it for a long time, but when I got rid of it things were starting to go wrong with it - the effects button and those crap little buttons under the screen etc.

Purely as a sampling mixer it's ok, but there's much better available if you search around. My personal favourite was a Rane mixer for sampling through as the EQ was good on it, but it was quite pricey.

I have one and for sampling it's cool. I like my mixers loud and it definately is loud enough. Right now I'm on a vintage mixer hunt. Im using a numark dm-1600 and the sound is nice. Im looking for a GLI pmx 1900. The crossfader might be better on the gli.

What type of preamp rack are you using with EQ? Been looking for a decent Preamp with an EQ for my turntable. Totally know where you coming from as far as air and static.

i know what you mean the cue buttons and some faders crapped out on mine but they got replaced by a tech, easy job

exactly, been looking into one myself and they are quite pricey indeed.

other than that i messed around on a xone 42 in a record shop and quite liked it. sounds good, nice faders and good filter

it certainly is loud

i'll probably keep sampling on it, its all good until i flip it for either a nice rane or xone 42.

still didnt understand what that was about regarding air or static from a dj mixer. the signal seems not to be affected

could you explain?
