I'd certainly do that on top of the filter envelope

im not sure how tight you can get the resonance on the 4k filter, but the way im talking about it, the resonance is so high that the source sample doesn't even really matter, as long as the frequencies are there to sweep through. the point is you barely hear the sample, you just hear the filter.

Hi All,
So yesterday when I got home I tried what Lamp said, here is the more thorough analysis. I went through the bundle of samples which many of you now have and in the files that list the names of all of analog synths I think I was in the oberheim and found a nice set of Booooms. A really nice set! this was my reference.
I then went an found a sine wave and got one full cycle and tried to recreate the Boom sound. I was able to make a boom and it was long lasting thanks to the amp's release being set to a long slant. However it was low in volume. It was not a loud BOOooooooommmm.
So I will experiment with different waves to see how different they can all be.
So I then tried to redo the same things on the moog minitaur but I can't seem to get it. The main problem I am having is that the LFO rate is always moving. Even if I slow it down to the slowest it can go, then I have to hit the key at the right time. I don't know, I am going to go on the Moog forum and ask over there.
There are many boom sounds in the samples that you all have.

I hope we can create some youtube pages of like "MPC4000 -making a _______ sound?"

That would be so helpful.
I will make one either tonight or tomorrow. The more the better especially for extended bass. As you can see hear, people have posted 3 or 4 different ways to do it.

Cheers,
Ian

Do you have an exact example of what you are looking for? I can use one of those oberheim samples and create what you need and then run back the info on how I did it?

You can do that in my example. Adding on LFO in a slow downward rate would make that happen.

I don't remember magic mike using that though.

I used to love the **** outta creep dog dj magic mike cool rock & chaszy chess.

Lamp,
That's the sound. That sine wave boom you keep hearing in creep dog and pretty much all of his tracks.
I got the sound thanks to all...it just isn't loud. I just need more time to play with it.
This is the sort of thing that is more fun to watch being made than to read how to do it.
Cheers,
ian

4k, Load entire folder, I made this about 1 hour ago just to show that I know EXACTLY what you are talking about. The bass cycle loop you wanted is pgm 2 (pgm2 is a keygroup of 1 sample).
It's a trim/cycle/loop copy of a bass sample in pgm 1. This is so you can see exactly how I did what I did.

"MAINOUT" is the 4k's main out saved as wave. Play it back in media player or something to hear the whole beat (for the non 4k peeps).

Enjoy :-D

There is reasonably detailed analysis and practical instruction on the synthesis of a range of different sounds/instruments in the Sound On Sound Synth Secrets series, it is a very useful resource.

This is the section that discusses the 808 and 909, you should give their ideas a go, if they expand on what you are doing already, and see how close you can get on the 4000...

The full list, work on the other 808/909 sounds after the bass drum...

Lampdog,
That is what I am talking about. That was a great tune you put in the dropbox folder.
Now hopefully I will have some time this weekend to try to make a vid of myself creating this on the 4000. That is the bass tone.

@everyone ,
The song by B.o.B. "we still in this b" has a long sustained bass. Is it me or is it different than the tr808 bd when it is sustained? Is it compressors or effects making it sound a little different?

Cheers,
Ian

Boom you make with sine differs from triangle, sawtooth, then there's filters and all that stuff that makes em all differ.
That's not a true tr808 bass. A clone or something else but it's not original.
