I'm a noob. I want to buy the renaissance and I could buy a used one but i don't know how it's gonna work with the packs and registration of the mpc? Can anybody fill me in? Would I be able to register the software and can I get those expansions from somewhere else?

You will be able to register/authorise it. It comes with 4 authorisations, which Akai will reset if they run out.

If it does not come with the expansion pack installation discs, you might be able to find a disk image of them to download, I know the Akai support person on the Akai forums was providing links to downloads for users without a disc drive in their computer. Otherwise, Akai might be able to supply replacements, I imagine at a cost.

On a similar topic, I have a Studio. All of my software etc. is installed. I'm thinking about getting a used Ren. Will my current software still run the same and simply recognize the Ren when I plug it into my computer? That would be awesome.

From what I gather, you just load the ren driver and the software will then work without any other need to install or register the hardware
