Is it possible to Split a Track?

Is it possible to split a track into two parts...for example i have a kick and snare part on one track can i make them seperate without re-recording the track...

Copy the track and use the erase button on the two tracks.

This is for 2000XL, don't know what you have or if it's different.

MPC1000 works the same way, Erase function in Overdub mode.
