Crazy. my volca has already arrived. but I can't use it till christmas.

Just tell them you have to test it to see if it works. I just say it's analog i have to wait for the oscillators to warm up. And here in Florida it takes a week. Ha ha. :lol:

Having loads of fun with my volca so far. :nod:
I might get around to recording a demo today. :-D
It is CRAZY how low this filter self-oscillates. so fat.

I also got a very nice pear wood tenor recorder. :smoker:

One of my favorite things about this is the ribbon controller. Korg really got this right, IMO. Super responsive (it's a different type of sensor to the monotribe/trons).



Here's something else I made with the Volca. Just some doodling; it's heavily processed, thru my homemade lofi fuzz distortion box, and then loaded with MPC1000 reverb. So not really much of a demonstration of the Volca.



Unfortunately it seems my volca might be defective. At random sometimes when I'm muting/unmuting oscillators, it will trigger other buttons, with all kinds of unwanted results, from muting/unmuting tracks randomly to stopping playback.

Cool to see more people enjoying the Volcas here. Nice baseline sciguy. I think I'm gonna buy the Volca Bass as well as the Keys. I'm glad I bought the Volca Beats when I did. They're out of stock in most places. I'm really getting a lot out of the Volca Beats... more than I thought originally. I overlooked the STEP JUMP feature and started tweaking it simultaneously with the STUTTER. This is definitely the most fun I ever had with any drum machine! :nod:

yeah, I really wish the bass had the step jump feature.
I was originally considering getting the beats, but eventually decided the sounds were just not to my personal taste. it does look like a lot of fun though.


The bass is sweet. I really like the filter, very smooth. The bass can make some really pleasing soft tones with the filter at 0 resonance (peak, as Korg calls it). I definitely see myself using it for leads sometimes. But obviously it can make some fat aggresive basses, too.

Yeah I like the sound of the Volca Bass. Definitely different than the x0xb0x, so there won't be any redundancy with it in my setup. I'm gonna grab the Keys next and then go for the bass. Hopefully soon if I play my cards right.

oh, absolutely.

It's be foolish to seriously pretend like the volca was a 303 clone. That said, some of the first sequences I tried putting into the volca were famous 303 lines, Da funk, Everybody needs a 303, confusion pump panel remix, etc... :nod:

The bass and drums are obviously trying to go with the 303 and 808 visual theme/style/basic design, so I can see where the comparison comes from, and why some might expect them to be a clone, but yes, not clones in any way.

While there's similarities, it's cool that Korg designed the Volcas with their own unique character. I bought the Volca Keys on Friday. I've read about the noise in the Delay, and I noticed it right away. But unlike others who didn't like it, I find that it gives it some character. I spent a few hours with it every night and found it to be worth my money. So now, all I need is the Volca Bass, then I'm saving up for the MS-20 Mini. :)

UPDATE: Now I'm seriously addicted to the Volca Series and really gotta have that Volca Bass to complete the collection. :mrgreen:

definitely, there's some phatness on those sawtooth oscillators (squarewaves I gotta say are a bit meh IMO), and sweet resonance on that filter. Crazy low self-oscillation.

Here's a bit more of why I like my volca.


Single-take improvised knob-twiddling.
Run thru my fuzz distortion pedal in the second half, and a little bit of reverb added in Audacity (just ordered a bluesky, tho)
