MPC2000xl in the nude!!

yeah the buttons still seem to be working but a brother is real anal about sh*t not being how it should be, but I think Imma keep it and still rock with it...I got 40+ days left if I wanted to send it back and get another one.

in regard to the pads being "sunken" it happens with cell phone keypads too, essentially its a round metal dome, and when pushed down it makes contact and voila the button works. if its sunken in, the button is shot, and will only get worse.

from the picture it looks like the ribbon attached to the pads isnt soldered, so im sure replacing those would be easy. for the ones on the mainboard? i have no advice.. i hope they keep working HTH

VST sent me an email stating that my black pads are on their way. Whooo hoooo! They've been on back order for quite awhile now.
I'm also waiting on a SCSi ribbon cable so I can hook up an internal laptop hard drive and my card reader at the same time in my 2KXL. I'll show sum pics when I figure it out and get it working.

Juke? Do you have a grey MPC2000XL or the blue joint?

If you got the blue joint I'm interested in see the end result with the black pads.....I'm think about doing that with my blue and black MPC..........

Its a lot easier and a lot less hassle to just get the PCD-47b Cardreader from Microtech. It has a PCMCIA slot in it, and you can just slide in and out a 5GB laptop hard drive. Its a portable hard drive, and you can load up samples from a laptop, and transfer them to the MPC, and vice versa. Same idea as what youre doing, but easier and much better since its removable and can be used for transfers as well as long-term storage. Mind you, this is on top of the normal advantages of having a card reader---just doesnt require weird wiring, or the extra headache of making sure a SCSI chain works, plus the hassle of trying to squeeze two separate drives into your MPC.

Tic-Toc... I was thinking of going that PCMCIA route if the laptop hard drive didn't work. I got a 4Gb IDE laptop hard drive for 5 quid ($8 ) thats why I'm doing it this conversion cheaply. You did bring up a good point about being able to transfer the PCMCIA hard drive to another pc whereas the internal hard drive stays... well... internal. Also the SCSI chaining is going to be a headache I can see already. Thanks for the info bro...

Edit: I might just go do the PCMCIA HD route. I forgot about my external SCSI CD reader and the headache of setting up the terminators for that devise as well as having the card reader and internal hard drive setup with SCSI. Oh well... It was a thought...
