turntable problem

i have a USB Numark Turntable and Im using the MPC 1000 to record using 1/4 converters attached tot he RCA Outs of the Numark table --> Pre-amp, then Pre-amp outs ---> MPC 1000 Record Ins.

problem is, when i record the sample into the MPC and I play it back afterwards, I can still hear the actual needle running across the record, in the record...which sound HORRIBLE. makes it sound like the needle is GRINDING the record and the recording is not clean AT ALL.

this happens with all my records. most of them are very clean and are NOT warped at all and still i get this "grinding" noise in my recordings.

does anybody know what the problem is and how to adjust it to get a clean recording without the needle grinding?

Are the turntable RCA outputs outputting a phono signal, or a line level signal?

If it is outputting a line level signal, you don't send that through a phono preamp, you send it directly into the MPC.

If there is a switch on the turntable to select between phono and line level output, make sure that it is set to phono when connected to a phono preamp, or try it set to line level and plugged directly into the MPC.

If not, and it is sending out a phono output, what phono preamp are you using, and do you have another needle to test with?

turntable outputs phono signal. i have the rca phono outs from turntable going into my mixer's input designed specifically for turntables. the switch is set to phono.

i don't have another needle to test, only the stock that came with the table itself. it's done this from day one, and the only way that i can really bypass this problem is by literally guiding the needle along the record as its playing, by pulling the needle off the record JUST ENOUGH to not have that grinding sound, but at the same time keeping the needle on the record.

Sounds like maybe the turntable isn't setup correctly, maybe tracking force not setup right, or the needle is damaged, and the cart is dragging on the record?

Have you gone through any setup process with it?

If you look closely at the needle, does it look like just the tip is sitting in the record groove, no other part of the needle or cart touching the record.

If you are lifting it and it sounds OK, maybe it is the tracking weight, if you have to push towards the inside or outside of the record, maybe anti-skate.

i went back and re-adjusted the weight on the back of the arm for about 10 minutes to get it precise and it worked.

i kept adjusting the weight forwards, then backwards and slightly put the needle back on the record, until finally the needle was just on the record enough to play, but no "grinding" sound.

so now it is fixed and i suppose all the problem was that the weight was too far up the arm and was "pushing down" the needle onto the records.
