DAW/Computerless Set Ups?

Yeah I can see how all those endless options can distract you. Maybe pretend your doing a collab with yourself trick yourself and try to set a goal to finish and stick with it till done maybe.
I'm not into daws cos usually as a job I stare at a computer screen all day and just don't wanna when home maybe. Also soft synths, until lately sounded a bit meh to me. Now they don't though.
Oh and constant updating of hardware and software is annoying. No probs with that hardware wise - 20 years and no update needed on synths. Well some do get updates, and so does jjos but least it does not need a new computer every couple of years.
I will dabble with daws but usually just for mastering and then making mp3s. I'm actually trying to do live sound so no point really mastering some demo that's meant to represent my live sound.
So with equipment and some mixing skills and tricks I don't need a daw to master a demo I do cos I'm trying to show how it sounds live. I play some stuff to people and they can't comprehend no computer and this is weird but I guess the sign of the times.

It's a sign of the times, for sure! Ain't no wrong in having a computer around though, as we all know. The power of these programs/DAWs are just f*cking insane! I barely need all that when I work solo, plus it's cool when my dad comes to the studio and can make better sense of the way things are working. Always a plus.

Today starts my complete re-wire of the studio. I hope it doesn't take for ever.



EDIT - @Smashed: Do you use the MIDI controller to play sounds from the MPC? I'm guessing you're recording your recorded MIDI notes into the sequencer?

Yeah mate the midi keyboard is for INST programs and other general screwing around, Plugged into the midi in.

I do everything inside the mpc and then track out into the R16. Although I haven't mastered the R16 yet, it is a fairly powerful little machine.

Just cant beat real knobs, faders, pads etc.

I started out on software and taught myself the ins and outs, and gradually realized that I wanted the real thing. Trial and error got me where I am today.

A few questions:
- What's that box with them purdy blue lights? Is that what you're recording to or is it an effects processor.... or sound source?

- What's your MIDI communication look like between the MPC and the MnM? I'm going to be borrowing a buddy's Mono for a while and was just wondering how you have them talking to each other.

- What do you have the MIDI pedal board doing? Very interested in stuff like that. Foot controls. <3

Boss Gt-Pro, a guitar fx/amp modeler for recording guitars and bass to (thru the mixer) MPC. It has digital out, so it could recorded to MPC that way too, I guess..
Ideally it would be used for effecting the synths also, but I'm too lazy to re-configure my mixer.

MPC is master, sending only MIDI-clock to MnM.
MPC MIDI out 2 -> MnM

Roland FC-300 for controlling the GT-Pro and Line6 Filter Pro (that purple box above the GT.)
I also use the Amp Control of FC-300 as a footswitch for MPC.


MIDI-flow in my setup:

Keyb -> MPC Midi in 1
MPC Midi out 1 -> Roland JV-2080
MPC Midi out 2 -> MnM in (just the clock)
MnM Thru -> FC-300 in
FC-300 out -> GT-Pro in
GT-Pro thru * -> Filter Pro
+
FC-300 Amp Ctrl switch -> MPC Footswitch 1 (REC+PLAY START)

*Maybe I should get a MIDI-splitter to add Digitech Whammy.
