Running 2 sound modules and motif through the MPC??

How can I run all three through the MPC2000XL?? I also have a korg hard disk recorder (16 track).

Motif in ---> MPC out A
MPC in1 ---> Motif out
MPC in2 ---> Korg Multitrack recorder out (for syncing purposes if you are recording to this)

Sound Module 1 in -----> MPC out B
Sound Module 2 in -----> Sound Module 1 thru

this will give you 16 channels of the Motif on Midi 1-16 (1A-16A) and 8 channels for each sound module on Midi 17-32 (1B-16B)

now you have to refer to your manuals to determine how to turn the channels in the sound modules on and off.

I have the Emu mo' phatt & Proteous 1000 sound modules...right now I have those goin through the A & B of the MPC and running all of my A/V cables into the Korg recorder. The Motif a/v cables are also runnin into the Korg recorder. I also just got the Protools M-box so I ran the stereo outs of the Korg recorder into the M-box and stereo out from M-box to the Left and Right monitors.

dont mean to highjack your post lady, but if anyone knows, say you have more then 3 modules. how would you connect everything together so you can use ALL of your sounds without having to re-route a bunch of things?

i've always wondered. i was told to use midi thru, but i still never really understood it. i've researched midi chain boxes which let you connect several devices to one box....but im really curious.

Smoove ....Midi thru goes back to the early days of midi (20 years ago) when instruments would only be able to use one voice at a time so would only receive one midi channel number. So, you might have a Yamaha DX21 synth on midi channel 5, a Roland AlphaJuno synth on channel 7 & a drum machine on channel 10.
Your sequencers back then only had one midi out so you would daisy chain your midi gear using the thru socket.

sequencer out to synth 1 in
synth 1 thru to synth 2
synth 2 thru to drum machine

However, as you got further away from the sequencer data would get start to get lost so it was better to use a midi splitter box.

Going to the start of your question, with 3 modules you would first need to decide which module do you use the most sounds simultaneously on. Have that on one of your MPC midi outs. Then daisy chain your other modules on the other midi out, using the thru of the first module you connect to the in of the second. Now, you just need to remember to use different midi channels on the two chained modules, like using channels 1 to 8 on one & 9
to 16 on the other.
