can you sample from the cd or dvd drive

I was wondering can you sample from a cd or dvd drive from your computer with the Ren or studio or do you have to save the song you want to sample from on your hard drive, I don't have one yet just wondering, I can do it on my mpc4000, and want to get a Ren or studio

Not directly, you have to get it off an audio CD onto one of your computer drives as an audio file first. (EDIT: with MPC Software 1.5 on a Mac you can import it directly from an audio CD)

Not sure if there is a way to route the audio internally from a CD playing application into the External input in the Sample Record mode of MPC Software, using some sort of internal audio routing utility.

I have a sound blaster sound card in my pc and the software has a channel called what you hear. This allow me to record anything that is going through my speakers. I can select what you hear as a input in the ren and sample the source.

Yes, you probably need some sort of hardware that has that functionality in the software/drivers it comes with, or some sort of internal audio routing utility to do the same thing.

EDIT: NOT CORRECT: On a Mac, an audio CD shows up in finder, and in the MPC Software browser, as AIFF files, but you can't seem to drag them into MPC Software as samples.

With MPC Software version 1.5 on a Mac, you can drag a full audio track, as an AIFF file, directly off of an audio CD, into MPC Software as a sample, inside the MPC Browser or from the Mac Finder.

Didn't seem to work on 1.4, does on 1.5.

i got an optical to digital coaxial converter was about 18 pound went from optical out on my mac to digital in on mpc setup multi output device on my mac not sure i u got that on a pc now i can record anything cds dvds web browser games etc

My Mac output goes through a channel on my mixing desk as does all other equipment so I can sample any signal that is plumbed through the mixing desk. Whilst budgets are tight for some, even the cheapest of mixing desk will do the job?
