FMR Audio - RNC and RNLA (Thoughts/Feelings?)

FMR is awesome.

i have used the rnc, rnla and the pbc-6a.

i went into the pbc-6a blind, and i wanted it for vocals. i was looking for a cheaper version of the 1176, and it delivered. i was floored by the sound quality. after i had it, i could no longer justify buying an 1176 because the pbc-6a covered my needs that well.
not to say that its going to be an 1176, but it filled the gap and i wouldnt consider buying an 1176 anymore because of it.

if you want a super clean compressor, get the RNC, thats all it is, super clean. its a no frils, natural sounding compressor, and oh man does it reduce the dynamic range nicely. i remember one time looking over wondering if it was working right, then seeing i was getting 12 db of gain reduction without even hearing it kick in. it sounds natural and if thats what your going for, get it.

if you want some more grit, get the RNLA, but if you have the extra money, i would just splurge for the pbc-6a its fantastic. not saying you wont be happy with the RNLA, i just had the extra money at the time and went for the pbc-6a sight unseen; i would have been happy with the RNLA too. although i was blown away by the pbc-6a.

i only ever used it on vocals, but i loved it, i have heard its does wonders on drums, but i never tried it on them myself. people seem to like the RNLA on drums as well

unfortunately i had to sell the pbc-6a, so next time i will probably get the rnla just because its cheaper.

i dont think you can go wrong with any of them really.

it all depends on if you want clean or grit.

the pbc-6a has some extra features that make it nice too.

another super cool thing, its a small enough company that if you ever have questions about them, you can call them and talk to the guy that makes them. hes a super cool guy.

just get one man, or if you have the money, get all 3 cause they are cheap!

I live an hour and a half away from where FMR is based (Austin, TX)! It will definitely be worth a trip up there to go and check some stuff out first-hand. I can't decide so I will probably end up getting both of them. Between the RNLA & RNC... it's a hard pick. Luckily, they can both be used for different things.

check the pbc-6a too man! if you can afford both of them, it can be versatile too.

I've got 2 RNCs.

I always have one hooked up for sidechaining. I got the other for whatever else I'd want a compressor for.

It is really nice, for how much it costs. The RNC's the one to get (vs. the RNLA) if you want it transparent. What you put into it is exactly what you get out, except compressed. No coloring or extra tone added. Which is more what the RNLA does, if you want that. Haven't used a RNLA myself, though.

If you're only getting one, I'd say go for the RNC, because it may be more flexible. But that would be useful to test them out to see for yourself.

Since the price is absolutely right I think I'm going to pick up 2x RNC and 1x RNLA.

Me thinks they'll look nice sitting in a Funk Logic rack, but that's much further down the (perpetually long) road!

First on the list... 1x RNC and 1x RNLA.
