Would have to be possible, with the correct LEDs.

Though I think you might need surface mount soldering skills, which is a little more tricky than through hole, the LED looks to be a single surface mount RGB LED in the centre of each pad...

This shows how to get in there, shows pad LEDs briefly at 10:00...

You may want to contact AKAI about a service manual. Its difficult to say what type of led it is. It may be something like a R/G/Y LED. I don't think its RGB because you don't ever see different colors or variations in the colors like you'd see with an RGB Led. You also need to determine size 0401, 0603, etc... You can see if there are any marking codes on the led board but its unlikely there are any. Also it may not be the LED, if you have a DMM switch it to diode mode and see if you get the same or similar voltage drops on all of the LED's.

Update...the pad 4 light worked again a day, then didn't work a few days, a now works again...
by the way how many hours of lifespan does the lighting have? 10.000? Or less?? And then what?? Its not perse necessary but it is handy (especially with that revolutionary step-edit:-)) but then what?? U don't replace it easily??? To the mpcmechanic?? (dope name btw.)
