INSUFFICIENT MEMORY! (noob issues)

I have an mpc 2500 with the 128mb ram upgrade but every time i try to load a sample in stereo and bring it to the chopping screen and it says "insufficient memory" but it usually doesnt do it when i load a mono sample unless its very long.

im thinking i needa upgrade to 256mb pc133 144pin sodimm 16x16 abp ram but i just want to see if its necessary to spend the money first.

128MB is the maximum the 2500 will hold. The third party memory chips required are actually 256MB, but the MPC only recognises 128MB.

Are you sure you have 128MB? Go to RECORD (mode and pad 5), highlight TIME and hit WINDOW.

You can fit over 11 minutes of stereo audio in your MPC, however when chopping you'll produce over double the extra audio from the resulting chops, so effectively you can only chop a 5.5 minute sample, and that would be pushing it.

Break your song into sections using EXTRACT, save them, clear memory, then load and chop one individual section at a time instead.

i read somewhere (not sure if in this forum or another) that the akai 128mb ram (which i can now confirm my mpc came with) only lets you use half the capacity of ram so its really 64 and if you purchase 3rd party ram at 256mb it'll let you use the full 128mb or something to that effect.

No, it's as I posted previously - third party RAM needs to be 256MB as the MPC only recognises the first 128MB. The official Akai memory board is a bespoke build, rated at 128MB.

So if you have the Akai chip, you will have maximum 128MB. But as I also posted, you can easily check how much memory your system is recognising.

The Free memory field displays the time you can record with the current memory. Below it, the status of the memory is indicated as bar graph.

Below the bar graph, the total amount of the RAM in the MPC2500 is displayed.
