Sold my 1000, now what?

So, I've spent 6 years with my MPC 1000, and have decided to turn that page and sold it before leaving to Thailand for a month for some extra cash.
I replaced the pads a couple times, the IO's were having issues and I isolated it as being the source of an annoying hum (not a ground loop).

Now I'm back and I need a new machine for programming my beats and samples.
Another MPC? a pad controller? a combo machine w/ software? not sure..
I'm so used to doing all my chops & editing/programming within the MPC, but I'm very curious to try out software like A. Live with a pad controller.. A little scared though.

I'm just looking for some input, what would be in your opinion my best bet to not completely leave behind the hardware-style of production I'm so used to, but embrace some more 'modern' production techniques with software etc..

someone has a 2500 on kijiji for like 700 bucks... maybe look to see if the 4000 posted on there is still available too while you're at it.

If you looking for a DAW and MPC route then you cant go wrong in my opinion with either another 1000 or 2500 installed with JJOS and reaper. It a powerhouse of a combo

These are all good suggestions. I know if I sell my 1000 even with JJXL/OS3, Fat Pads, white LCD and mostly black OEM buttons I'm getting no more than $600USD in the current market. So yeah 2500's are right there starting at $700USD.

If you have the space the 4000 has also dropped in price drastically and is still a very solid machine even next to a JJ MPC.

Any incarnation of Maschine is solid, although it will always be it's own style compared to an MPC, but the 2.0 pad layering is a big step toward an MPC style of working. But the Maschine sequencer is just different. Really solid, but a different style.

I also have a pad modded MPD, Korg padkontrol, and even an old Trigger Finger. I've used Ableton for years and with a good controller and an interface that can stay at a 32-128 buffer (or OS X equivalent setting) for a reasonably large session, and it's fantastic. I think that's the biggest key going from hardware to software, a decent pad controller and a quality interface that can do low buffers without getting taxed too hard.

So while I don't have the latest Machine I basically have all the options mentioned so far right here, and I would call any of them a win.

you won't see a 4k for that price up here in montreal...

there is an mpc60 for $1200 though.

+1 on Geist. Really solid piece of software, it deserves more attention.

Thanks for all the advice guys.. tempted to stick with an MP... but a couple buddys of mine are pushing the Maschine on me too...

Also got some good friends that use Ableton fluently who could give me a hand learning the software...

soooo pad controller and ableton or stick wit my MP and DAW.

ergg. I'll take more time to think about it and keep my eyes open for good deals.
