Sure they could do that. You can have a common cathode (-) but each of the three colored LED needs it's own anode connection (+). I think there are some that have common anode vs cathode as well. But yes if they are already using 3 LED's the connections should be fine. To get a multitude of colors though you have to be able to control the brightness of each LED so that circuitry would have to be there already or added.

If its a new Ren/Controller cool but wow that's real soon. I guess NI put some fire under that arse. Wonder if the would give the current Ren owners a chance to purchase it at a discount......

Yeah right wishful thinking. They'll screw us. I'll settle for the software upgrade.

They need some sort of bling to counter Maschine Studio at NAMM.

Fo sure, what I meant was that Akai probably think they need some bling to counter the Maschine Studio at NAMM...not that we as users need it.

And if it is just a black Renaissance LE, that would not impact on MPC Software development at all.

Though Hellfire knows what it is, and commented about Pete in relation to it, so maybe it is something new in software/hardware, as I am not sure Pete would be that interested, in particular, in just a Renaissance cosmetic change, seeing as he is all software...

They need some bling, but if it is anything other than a new flagship mpc / controller, it's not gonna be a good look. And it needs to tighten up the current software.

And here's my contribution to the rumor mill...

The picture shows lit pads with what appears to be a backlit yellow button. Ren might not have this, but an MPC 5000 does. And they talked in the past about an update for the 5000... Maybe they bailed and merged the 5000 form factor with the mpc software.

LOL. Unlikely, but plausible? Could u imagine a 5000 standalone unit that runs the MPC software?

The EWI, Electronic Wind Instrument, MIDI controllers have been around for years.

They date back to the 70s, the first Akai EWI, the EWI1000 (woodwind) and EVI1000 (valve/brass), were released in 1987. They bought their EWI tech from Steiner.

TOUCH SENSITIVE CONTROL WITH VISUAL INDICATOR - A music touch control system for an audio performance product is disclosed. The system includes a touch control surface configured and arranged to set and cause activation for playing a tone in an audio performance product; and a visual indicator connected to the touch control surface representing semitones of the tone. The visual indicator has a neutral tone point with +12 semitones above the neutral tone point and −12 semitones below the neutral point. Touching the control surface along the length thereof causes the audio performance product to play the semitone corresponding to the portion of the touch control surface touched and the visual indicator to indicate the semitone of the selected semitone. That would be the touch controllers on the Max keyboards...

This was approved on in December 2013 for Akai Professional. Same as above post but with pictures.
