Gettin an mpc2000xl for xmas.what do i need to look out for?

but i see that the mpc2000xl can come with many different extras,32mb RAM,cd drive,zip drives,on-board effects, 8-out.....etc

which are essential and which are only needed for like advanced users?

i've just been told that since im using alot of computer based software and hardware it would be best to get a mpc1000 cause it has the USB connection.

but what could i do through the usb connection? the only thing i can think of...... is more storage from the hard-drives on my pc and thats about it.............2000xl or 1000? lol

if it was me i'd go with the 2000xl.

zip drive or harddrive i think is a necessity. you need that for storage period.

the effects board is not needed. its up to you. some people find it useful some dont. not necessary.

8 outs would be cool to have but not necessary and neither is the memory upgrade. if your really into sampling that would help a lot though...

but those are just options.

1st thing...Memory! Get it fully expanded if you can - 32Mb (1k has more by the way)
If you can get the outboard, take it. U can get by without it. it'l jus mean less seperation options and time consuming if you wanna bounce tracks down to a Recording device. Ie Computer

Some people say the 1k fits into computer setups easier than a 2kxl. Hmm, I dunno...I guess in some instances this is true.... USB enables drag drop style of date transfer. I use the MPC2kxl and a comp and I get by just fine with an Internal zip and external HD. Spose it depends how reliant you are on the use of your computer. The 1k uses compact flash....The 2kxl can be fitted with this option now to tho so things are a little even in that department

The 1k or 2kxl thing is dodgy one. Best thing to do is find out what each machine can and can't do against each other....Ask yourself what you can live with and without and go from there. Their both stable machines so your money is never wasted, u just need to satisfy your personal needs.

yeh i can see what you guys saying,like it does mainly depend on personal preference as people work with different equiptment (analog +digital etc)

but all the big dawg b usin the mpc2000xl and so do the peeps on this board so it seems to stand out as the industry standard and beginners standard aswell.

yeh the 2mb--->32mb memory upgrade seems to range from like $10-$20,so imma get that. Definetly a zip drive aswell as i need to store alot,think i will skip on the effects tho lol

i've seen a few 8-out Boards that u can DIY on ebay,but they go for like $100+,i think it would be a good idea as it would make things alot easier,so imma try n find one already installed on an mpc.

but yea, it personal preference you know? i would love to get my hands on the 8 out board. dont need it right now, but i do want one. look for the best deal man. i think if you read through the forums here for the 1000 then the 2000 & 2000xl and read up on that stuff, you'll find out a lot. and that might help a whole lot!

Me too. I use the exact same internal zip in my pc as well, I bought 2 on sale a while back.
