So I've got an MPC1000 on the way. I have a Numark turntable with only phono outputs, so was gonna get a preamp between that and the MPC. Then link the MPC into a Marantz P230 amp I have, and then into speakers.

However it struck me I may not be able to listen to records on the TT without having the signal go through the MPC. Will this be a problem, and is there a simple fix that won't require constant cable changing?

Any thoughts would be appreciated, cheers

What is the P230, power amp or integrated amp?

If integrated, TT into P230 phono in, P230 tape out to MPC in.

If turntable has phono/line switch, set to line, plug it direct into MPC.

....if you hava a ground lifted phono dedicated input to catch the phono signal ypu can plug that straight to the mpc....

if you turn the input monitoring in the mpc on, you have a constant through signal from the records....

but a small dj mixer is no mistake anyway....

Front of the 1k manual has a basic gear setup diagram.
Good for starting up and/or to get a basic grasp of what goes where at the beginning stages.

After you get a handle on that, people usually and almost always change up stuff to suite their taste.

No, you need a phono preamp for a phono signal, you can't just send a phono signal into a line input, it will not sound right, it needs the RIAA ed-emphasis curve provided by a phono preamp.

You send the line level output of the phono preamp into the MPC.

He has a phono preamp in his integrated hifi amp, he doesn't 'need' a mixer just for the turntable.

Yes, tape 2 out from the amp into the MPC inputs, MPC outputs into tape 2 in on the amp.

Use the tape 2 monitoring function on the amp to listen to the MPC, set the amp input to phono to route the turntable into the MPC.
