errors all around!!!! help!

for some reason my mpc (which i use the free jj os on) wont let me play 2 consecutive sounds from my hard drive without freezing and it doesn't let me connect the hard drive to my pc, i tried going back to the original akai os to format it but its not letting me and i get an error or all the file folders are still there after its done.

what should i do? I don't really have the extra cheese to get a new hard drive atm.

Sounds like the hard drive is bad, however you might be lucky and it just needs reformatting (do this in JJOS, not in Akai OS).

If you have files that need backing up and are having trouble connecting the MPC to your computer, you could take out the hard drive and pop it in an external USB enclosure and connect that way, you might be more successful. You can then backup.

Worse case scenario is to use the CF card slot instead.

What do you mean by 'play 2 consecutive sounds from my hard drive'?

I don't think that it plays anything from the hard drive, it loads the samples from the hard drive into memory, and then plays the samples from the memory, not the hard drive.

Are you loading the samples in to the internal memory from the hard drive, then when trying to play them back from the internal memory, it is freezing?

Are you going into the Load or Save screens, selecting USB with the F4 key, and changing the 'Load from' or 'Save to' field to HARD DISK?

when im in the loading screen and i try to hear a sample before i select it, i press play and it'll play the first one and then when I try to play a 2nd one it freezes

If it were me, I'd take it out completely and see how you get on with a new CF card - format the CF card in JJOS, transfer some sounds from your computer, preview some sounds in the LOAD screen and if you don't have any issues, then I would assume the hard drive is failing.

I would then take the hard drive over to my computer via a USB enclosure and run it through some disk utilities to see if they can fix it. But most likely it's only delaying the inevitable.

A new 40 or 80GB hard drive for an MPC2500 literally only costs a few dollars on Amazon.

my cf cards work fine, they just don't have a lot of space. and I'm canadian so amazon isn't really my friend in terms of shipping, so to speak and ebay's supply of 2.5 ide's is very limited.

Well it's 99% certain that your drive is either about to die or fingers-crossed it needs re-formatting in a computer. The other 1% possibility is an issue with the IDE interface, which is unlikely.

If you can't get it connecting to a computer to test and repair the drive, I see dozens of 2.5" IDE drives on ebay.ca, starting at $5, up to $28

You can't buy a larger CF card?

With the MPC only having 128MB of RAM available to use, something like a 16GB CF card should hold a fair amount of MPC samples/programs.

I just got the 160gb hard drive today and im still getting an error message when i try to format it, what should i do?

im still getting a system error message when trying to format the 160gb hard drive i just bought, what should i do?
