I tried that and I'll be able to record but can't add from another track, just can't get Yo seperate tracks or instruments playing at same time even with all tracks enabled?
Also I open one audio track so I can hear the metronome on my mpc

you have to make sure:
1) in settings - recording, 'auto-demix by channel when multitrack recording' is enabled.
2) each logic instrument track is set to receive on a unique midi channel.

you said you would post pics but you did not. post a pic of track one - inspector, track two - inspector, and settings - recording.

ps. make sure we can see the pics and read what is in them.

Hi guys, this tutorial is awesome, and it helped me a lot. I have a couple questions though..I set each logic instrument track to a unique midi channel but when I go into the MPC and try changing each track to a different midi channel it only responds to whats on Midi Channel 1, so I have to switch each instrument in logic. I was under the impression that I could flip through the logic instruments while on my 4000.

Another question, when I turn the MPC on note repeat, shouldn't it play back with its timing into Logic? When I do 16th notes it is off beat, is there a way to sync the MPC to Logic so that it will be in timing with my Logic patterns? Thanks!

Ok...so for the particulars:

I am using and MPC 4000 (as my main, initial sequencer)
my midi router is the MTP AV USB
my main keyboard (used for its sounds AND triggering Logic sounds) is the Kurzweil K2600xs
and Logic 9 is my DAW (used initially as a sound module - successfully set up according to the $12 tutorial: works well)...BUT

When I set up the 4K thru the MTP (4K Midi outs 1&2 to MTP in 1&2 / MTP out 1&2 to 4K in A&B) and Kurzweil k2600 midi i/o to MTP i/o channel 3 I cannot get the GODDAMNED midi from channel 1 in logic to stop playing when I try to select sounds from the Kurz....I can do this successfully (true 32 ch. of midi by connecting the kurz directly to the 4k's midi i/o -but I am not using the MTP as it should be used: considering I need to add a Korg oasys to the setup, etc. and be able to route without repatching cables) - WHAT AM I MISSING? WHY WONT MIDI CH. 1 STOP PLAYING??? Is this some "Environment" foolishness that I need to (*gasp*) tweak??? WTF??!?!! Help - It's been a few days...Oasys is on the way too.....

Not going to read the whole 16 pages to see what is being recommended, but it is something along the lines of...

- set auto-demix by channel in Logic?
- set each channel in Logic to a different MIDI channel number, and put an instrument on them?
- record enable the tracks you want to play in Logic?
- set MPC tracks to MIDI, and the desired MIDI channels, and the MIDI output connected to Logic?

What exactly is not working?

Are you seeing the MIDI notes being received by Logic in the Logic Transport Bar?

Is it making any sound from the Logic instruments?

essentially none of the logic instruments are triggering from the mpc 2000xl....Thats what i want to do,use the mpc as a midi controller like so many others say they can do.

I get to step 7 but im wondering what screen on mpc 2000xl im supposed to be on....hmmm? Shift 1-9 ...which one, after step 7 the pads are apparently supposed to trigger sounds from logic but i get nothing...

Can you answer the questions I posted above?

Are the sounds in Logic being triggered from any other MIDI keyboards or pad controllers?

i will try to answer as best i can

1-Mpc is not triggering logic instruments as a midi controller is supposed to
2-I am not seeing MIDI notes being received by Logic in the Logic Transport Bar because i dont know where to find the "Logic Transport Bar"
3-No sound from logic instruments i s being made

NOTE- my alesis q25 will work as a midi controller for instruments in logic ,but i have it disconnected for the sake of achieving my goal of using the mpc as a midi controller

MPC should be on Main Screen.

In the track section of the Main Screen, down the bottom left, change the track type from Drum to MIDI, set the MIDI channel and output of the first MPC track.

The setting should be something like...
S:MIDI :1A-Device 1
...that is assuming that you have connected MIDI output A from the MPC to a MIDI input on your computer MIDI interface.

When you hit pads on the MPC, you should see the MIDI note on/off messages from that MPC pad hit being received by Logic in the Logic Transport Bar.

Are you doing this, seeing this?

This is the Logic Transport Bar, you should be seeing the incoming MIDI note on/off message from the MPC, in the MIDI I/O Display section, where it says No In in this image...

First and foremost thank you for trying to help me and for your patience.

I do have the mpc set to S:MIDI:1A-Device01
Okay i found the transport bar but it doesnt show any sign that mpc is controlling ,so no messages shown or changing here

OK, nothing is going to happen until you see Logic receiving MIDI in the transport bar when you hit MPC pads, so for some reason MIDI signals are not getting from the MPC into Logic.

Are you sure that you have plugged a cable from MIDI output A to a MIDI input on your computer MIDI interface?

When you hit a pad, it should change from No In on the transport bar to a MIDI note number, and then change back to No In when you release it.

It should show a note on message when you press the pad, and a note off message when you release it.

yes positively its brand new and light on interface has green light on the in display. Its a usb midi cable- midi cable in is plugged into midi in "1"on mpc and midi out cable is plugged into midi out "A" on mpc

I think im also getting confused at this step-->3. Using the INSPECTOR select each of the 15 tracks in the arrange window in turn and assign each to the corresponding midi channel. Track 1= midi channel 1, Track 2 = midi channel 2 and so on. Don’t change any of the instruments yet.

NOTE- for each logic instrument i have set the midi channel to the same setting on the mpc-i.e.-bottom left mpc pad is( Pad:A01=Note:35) Pad to the right of bottom left pad is(Pad:A02=Note:36) and so on all the way to the end at (Pad:D16=Note:98)
