Yeouch... Yeah, I'd rather break a $300 MixTrack during a gig than have to buy and move all of that safely.

For me, it's the feel of these controllers I don't like. I'm all for digital dj'ing. I just love the feel if the real 12" vinyl. So I really love the concept and feel of Serato and Torq. As far as the sound, no one knows the difference and no one cares, at a party.

Definitely with you on that HF.

Numark was on the right track with the CDX.

Had the full size vinyl platter and er'thang. Too bad is was only for CDs. All they need is to take that concept and make it a controller.

The best part was the platter speed changed with the pitch control like a real TT.

they also made the hdx... the problem was they aren't reliable for shows... awesome for in the studio.

What's the story on the reliablity...? I'm genuinely interested...

the same deal with all numark gear... it seems good at first but then you find out there is something they cut corners on..

for the cdx, it feels like it's built like a tank... buttons feel rugged, case feels rugged... but they put the shit tact switches under the buttons... which is not a huge issue if you are gentle (if you got them new) or you can always push a bit harder... the stop/go buttons are the type that get stuck in sometimes like the eject button on your old original playstation.... that can be fixed when you open it up and clean the socket the button sits in...

the real issue is, the cd drives they put are not great. They sometimes don't want to read the disk, burned cds can be hit or miss... some real audio cds with that DRM shit wont work at all (one of the mob deep disks I have wont work) ... but CDs sometimes start skipping. None of that stuff is a big deal for at home if you wanna do some cuts for a track... casual shit... but if you are spinning beats for a hip hop act you don't want that shit skipping. It may not happen, but eventually it will happen.

they are heavy as hell too.

go with pioneers for doing gigs.... or something that takes USB keys.
