hello all,

on my s950 i just noticed a variation in output pitch.

to keep it simple, i only record one kick and assign that to c3 as root note. when i sequence the kick, say for example a one bar loop, four on the floor. the kick plays constant pitch

when i go to VCF page and apply a filter envelope with a negative amount so the kick gets low passed every time it hits, then the kick starts playing different pitches. sometimes 4 different pitches in a row sometimes it alters once or twice every bar or so and so on. it just plays random pitches

the values on the VCF page are: attk dcay sstain rlse amnt
0 20 0 0 -50

if i do not apply a filter envelope then the kick plays the same pitch all the way through

if i may add, i already have the ram expansions and already removed them to try without them but with the same result

anyone knows how to fix this?

any kind of support appreciated

thanks

that sounds like some sort of lfo... I don't have a s950 but check to see if another thing is also turned on.

man I don't know then.... and it isn't that pitch warp thing in edit program? I never tried that on the s900 because I don't tend to use things like that but maybe check for odd stuff like that. I don't see how that would be turned on by itself though.

Does the pitch change back to normal if you go back to the home screen (Play)?
My s950 plays things back differently (with different pitches) when the sequence is running and I am in the Edit Sample or Edit Program screens. It changes back to normal if I go back to the Play screen (with the Program name on the display). Not sure why, but there you go  I just deal with it and carry on.

Thanks a lot. I havent tried from the play screen usually my 950 sat in the edit program mode. Good idea tho, i wouldnt be surprised if it worked like that even tho it should work the same from the edit program screen.

I will try to sequence while in the "play" screen in the meantime.

Lets see maybe somebody comes up with another answer

Cheers

i tried now and it still alters the pitch whenever you put a vcf envelpe amount. its jerky, within a decent limit, but noticable.

so i still cannot put a vcf envelope on kicks in the 950 because it then plays back different pitches

for bass sounds i'm starting to like it just sample a bass note, pitch it down and then sequence the bass note. sometimes it will go out of tune, its like an old analog synth which is trying to warm up. so for bass i like it

anyway still cannot put a vcf envelpe for my kicks. its a shame

the setting were wrong on my first post. the correct ones are:

attk(10) dcay (0) sstain (99) rlse (99) *amnt (-50)

cmon there have to be some experts out there who know what is going on.

could this be the voice board?

anyone knows? could anyone with a 950 try to play a one bar loop with a kick sequenced like that and report results?

cheers

Ok so that's not the problem..

Don't know if you are also using page 11 in program edit (VLCTY) but the manual says something about tonal changes using envelopes.. Page 39 from the manual.

"Furthermore, most, if not all acoustic instruments exhibit tonal envelope
changes where the tone varies during the course of a note. By providing a
separate envelope generator for the filter, we ere also able to imitate
these effects as well as set up some interesting, electronic effects."

Check that..

Can't think of any other reason why there should be tonal changes. Unless you're using the LFO. My advice is to read the manual on the envelopes 36-40.

my advice is to check everything to make sure nothing like that is turned on at all... if the sample triggers normally but **** up when it's being sequenced that suggests something is turned on that responds to the clock or something....

it won't take more than a couple of minutes to check every menu on the machine to double check every possible attribute you can adjust.

cheers for your piece of advise. i checked page 11 and while useful for designing instrument sounds it's not what affects the pitch of the sound because all notes hit at the same velocity, ie 100. because that is a velocity modulation page you should get different values for different velocities for attack, filter, release etc. i can see a +\- amount for release here which is quite nice :) unlike LFO amount which can only go on a plus but that's another story.

in any case thanks for the advice but its not applicable because all the notes here hit the same velocity and should get all the same filter setting

try on your s950. maybe its just how it behaves on fast attack settings on short sounds. has nobody really tried? its crazy how it changes pitch

turn on your 950 with no disk in. sample a kick. go to edit program page 9 (VCF) and sett the values to 10, 0, 99, 99, -50. while the kick sounds really good it changes pitch randomly.

i'm thinking of sampling that in DAW and just choose one but cannot sequence out of the 950 because it alters the pitch

To me these kicks sound the same and they also look the same when compared in a spectral analyzer

you probably have some sort of room problems.

Yes, they sound the same to me, I thought it was someone else other than the OP posting their test of the same thing, since the kicks sound the same as each other.
