ASR-10?

Right now i got another 1k and its filters and effects just arent doing my beats justice and im thinkin of going the asr(used-maxed out) route but before i do this i thought i should ask for opinions. also do you think i should get a used 2k for sequencing but i heard the stock one is fairly decent.

save up some money money for repairs. they're a bit costly and since the machine is old you'll experience it sometime in the unit's lifetime.

I got a ASR. You will be able to sequence it fine from your MPC1k. Just keep the 1k around for drums and sequecing and for your filler sounds, no since in using the asr memory for that.

since you have the 1000, just use that for sequencing instead of buying a 2000.

Those keyoards are more known for it's sampling abilities, but remember, their old.. there's a lot of new samplers that can do much more, and do it much better. I have an ASR-X, and it collects dust. The effects are nice, and the filters are cool, but an SP-202/303/505 can do just about all the asr can, and it's easier to work. This is my own personal opinion.. I can't tell you what to buy, just explore your options.

I have the MPC 3000 and the ASR 10. Matter of fact, I have the Triton as well. I use all three alot, but very specifically. The MPC for drums and scratches. The triton for vocal samples and "loops" and the ASR 10 for sounds that I want to play as keys. I visited Timbo's studio a while back, and he is now a Triton freak since leaving his ASR 10. Everything he did on the ASR he now does on the Triton. He said it himself however, it gives him a different sound with his production. Jay Z's "Dirt Off Your Shoulder" is ALL TRITON!!!!!

...........I still have an EMAX II. Now those are some dirty drums!!!!!

wow, all this time i would think to myself whenever that song came on,

"listen to that ASR 10 grittyness; that thing sounds rugged"

but i guess if the triton has a sampler, you can put any sound in it, clean or dirty...i just tend to associate it with pristeen string presets and whatnot...

Triton can anything u make it do. It's just that it seems like alot of people don't flex the grittiness side of it. ASR10 can be just as pristine also. More people flex the grittiness side of that machine and that's what you mostly hear and remember (wu-tang 36 chambers and beatnuts come to mind, cuban links also.)

I have to disagree with roxstar as I have an ASR-X (and had an SP202), and there is NO WAY that the SP202 or SP303 can do even HALF of what the ASR-X can do! I am not sure about the SP505 as I never worked with one, but from the specs I do not think it can do everything that the ASR-X can do.

I thought about getting an ASR-10, but decided on the ASR-X Pro as I was already familiar with it, and the liabilities of the ASR-10 (just it being so old). Just so that no one gets it twisted; the ASR-X Pro IS TIGHT! It gives WAY MORE control over your samples than any MPC (except for maybe the 4000), and it has a real nice sound. The only down-sides are that it is not very intuitive to use (though it gets easier as you go), and the sequencer is not as steady as the MPC's (though the quantizing is more robust).

Together (IMO) the MPC2000xl and the ASR-X Pro is the perfect production set. You get rock solid sequencing and an intuitive interface with the MPC, and excellent sampling capabilities with the ASR.

I used to love my ASRxPro (not the interface though) but I chose the easier interface of the 2kxl. Sometimes i catch myself missing the ASRxPro stomper software.

thanx for the extra feedback but.. with the money of the 1k i traded in i went and got a mpc-60 and eps 16+ and it is working great in these experimental phases im going through. its also teaching me alot about how to get the best outta sample time. way more fun than my 1k
