Can you try swapping them around, so that MIDI In on the USB-MIDI cable is connected to the MPC MIDI out A, and MIDI Out on the USB-MIDI cable is connected to the MPC MIDI in 1?

When sending signals from one device to the other, you plug the output of one device to the input of the other device.

If your USB-MIDI cable has LEDs on it to display MIDI In and MIDI Out, as well as power, then the MIDI In light should flash when you hit the MPC pads.

You need to get MIDI into Logic before worrying about anything else.

You click on the Inspector button at the top left of the Logic arrange page, find the MIDI Channel setting for the highlighted Logic instrument track, and set a different MIDI channel for each instrument track...



You set each Logic instrument to a different MIDI channel, then you set your MPC tracks to those same MIDI channels to control/play them.

NOTE- for each logic instrument i have set the midi channel to the same setting on the mpc-i.e.-bottom left mpc pad is( Pad:A01=Note:35) Pad to the right of bottom left pad is(Pad:A02=Note:36) and so on all the way to the end at (Pad:D16=Note:98)

That is setting the MIDI Note Number for each pad in the MPC, in a chromatic layout, that is not setting the MIDI Channel Number for each track in the MPC.

I have reversed the cables but still a no go..........Also well where would i set the midi channels in the mpc to match with logic?

Is there a MIDI In and MIDI Out light on the MIDI Cable, once you swap it around?

Is it flashing when you hit the pads?

Is it showing anything on the Logic Transport Bar MIDI I/O section?


Do you have a correct power supply, to run your Alesis Q25 without plugging a USB cable into it?

If so, run the Q25 from a power supply (without a USB cable plugged into it), plug the MIDI output of the Q25 to the USB-MIDI Cable In, test if you get MIDI Note On/Off messages from the Q25 into Logic.


What make/model is your USB-MIDI cable, and is it compatible with Mac OS X?


The bottom half of the Main Screen, under the horizontal dotted line, shows the Track settings.

Move the cursor to where it says TR:01, change it to TR:02, that changes the MPC track from Track 1 to Track 2.

On Track 2, change the Track type from Drum to MIDI, and the output to MIDI Channel 2, MIDI Output A...

You need to get MIDI from the MPC into your Mac working, before worrying about anything else.

Run snoize MIDI Monitor, and see if it shows any incoming MIDI from the MPC through the USB-MIDI cable...

If you have a power supply that suits the Alesis Q25, test the MIDI output of that, through the USB-MIDI cable, into MIDI Monitor and Logic.


Also, have a look in the Apple Audio MIDI Setup utility, in the MIDI Window, and see if it shows the USB-MIDI cable as a MIDI interface.

checked out the audio midi app in osx and it keeps making a chime noise randomly not even when i touch the pads,it does it on its own

Testing with midi monitor and the monitor screen is just going on and on by itself. I suspect the cheesy chinese usb midi cable is faulty. Its shows up in the osx app as midi 2.0 usb midi but logic nor live will recognize it in the pref>audio sections....im gonna get m audio midisport 1x1 from ebay ,hope that shows up

What messages is it showing on the MIDI Monitor, when going on and on by itself?

Is that even with nothing plugged into the USB-MIDI cable?


A MIDI interface will not show up in the Audio section of preferences, since it is not audio, it is MIDI, it will show up in the MIDI section of preferences.

The display area on the bottom of this screen shot just keeps rolling on and on,with random things.....

When the Cable is unplugged from the mpc the readout stops scrolling ....

Yes, maybe a better quality MIDI interface 'might' help!

Is that with nothing connected to the USB-MIDI cable?

You can make the window larger, so you can see more of the messages at once.

No,that was while the usb midi cable was connected to the mpc

You don't have to find anything in the Logic MIDI Preferences section.

If the MIDI interface works with the computer correctly, incoming MIDI goes into Logic automatically.

When i do these tests -->Test it with the USB-MIDI cable completely disconnected.

Sorry, I mean test with the USB-MIDI cable connected to the Mac, but the In and Out not connected to the MPC.

And test with the USB-MIDI cable connected to the Mac, but only the USB-MIDI cable In connected to the MPC MIDI Out A, and the USB-MIDI cable Out not connected to anything.

You do not need to connect anything to the MPC MIDI In 1.

You are only trying to send MIDI note on/off messages out of the MPC, into the computer, through the MPC MIDI Out A port, into the USB-MIDI Cable In plug.

You are not trying to send anything into the MPC from the computer, so leave the USB-MIDI cable Out plug disconnected, and only connect the USB-MIDI cable In plug to the MPC MIDI Out A port.
