SAVING IS RETARDED ON THIS THING

So I save a project from MPC Ren on my desktop. I re-name it on my desktop (the white paper icon with the red squares in it) because I don't like seeing all of those .xjp project icons etc. in the title, and now the project doesn't open! It says there's an error loading the project.

I can still load the project from the project data folder by loading all programs and sequences, but now the project doesn't have a title at all, and every track is called track 1!!!

What the hell? Anyone have any idea how to make it so my icon versions (white with red squares) of the project open again? Do I have to re-name them back to what they were called? How do I find out what they were called before? oh brother...

Well it sounds like you're changing the file extension. Of course it won't work. This will happen with any kind of file. You have to leave the .xjp alone. The computer doesn't know what program to use with the file and the program doesn't recognize the file as a compatible file type! Leave the extension alone!

I actually left the .xpj part alone. Just changed the title before it because it was all jumbled. It still says ".xpj" at the end of the title. I guess that was enough to screw it up though. Damn...

Sometimes projects change from being for one artist or another, or from having a working title to another to a final title. I would like to be able to change the name or save over a project with the new version of it, like on a regular MPC. Doesn't seem like an easy thing to do on this thing.

So you always have to save it as a new project? If that's the case then that is some b.s.

you can change some file extensions names of some files to allow you do certain things

i just changed a project file name in the mpc folder and it loaded no problems using a mac if that helps
I've had a couple of files that wouldn't open at some point just had to save it by loading everything from the folder and saved it under the new name not sure why it did it tho but i did change the name at some point in the mpc software

Hmm! Are you changing the name of the project data folder? That seems to break the link between the project and the samples folder which makes the project not load.

No. Didn't touch the data folder.

If I make everything exactly the same in the project data folder and the project icon except for the .xjp at the end, maybe that will make it so it works again? I'm gonna try it.

Not sure bro! I'm able to change the project name on my end and it still loads. I'm on Mac!

Yeah me too. Macbook Pro. So you can change the name on the actual icon with the red squares on it and it still loads? Crazy man. Mine just keeps saying error. Maybe if I upgrade to 1.6? I'm kind of scared to right now though in case something bad happens cuz I'm working on a bunch of important ish I don't want to lose. You never know with this newer Akai stuff.

I'd suggest reopening the project and use SAVE AS to save it under a new name.

The file extension (.xpj) should never be changed at all if you don't know EXACTLY what you're doing. You can always put it back, but removing the file extension is like not telling the OS which programme to use to open it. It's like selling a book in random languages without any label. .xpj labels the file as to be opened with MPC Software.
