Bug reports & end-user support for Akai's MPC Software 'controllers' including the new MPC Studio 2, the MPC Touch, MPC Renaissance & original MPC Studio and MPC StudioB lack.

Ok so I downloaded the 1.6 update the other nite and to my suprise it doesn't work with snow leapord (in my opinion the most stable os on mac) so I'm going to do the free update to mavericks but that isn't supported yet right? Anyone here using mpc on mavericks? What issues are you having?
And as for the big announcemt on the 22nd it's probably going to be a new apc or something else - I mean it took them over 3 months to get 1.6 out you really think they gonna have another update then? I very much doubt it. I've been a fan of akai for years and been using since the 2000 classic days but it just seems akai are trying to pump out as much crap as they can without sticking to what they (used) to do best (drum machines) there releasing headphones, monitors and all sorts of stupid gimmicky things and it's frustrating as a consumer who paid £800 for a midi controller which they lied about, I was sold on the vintage mode to be fair with them saying it's hardware based and would not be able to do it on the studio due to the RENs soundcard and then they turn around and say 'oh it's just a emulation' how many more times are they going to fob us off? Akai you need to sort it out and concentrate on just the mpc- get some more programmers in for the software and stop teasing everyone about updates and then all of a sudden not a word when the day comes! In the end if they keep this behaviour up they will lose ALOT of customers and my god just looks at the amount of RENs being sold on eBay now - that says a lot!
Just my two cents
Peace

That was a completely different company back then, long gone and bought & sold a few times over - inMusic simply bought the Akai Pro 'brand' and it's various intellectual property a few years back. I don't think there's many if anyone from the old Akai Pro Japan still involved these days.

The true 'heritage' is now from Numark, Alesis and various other companies that have been bought up and now form part of 'inMusic Brands'. Basically inMusic bought the right to keep banging on about the 'iconic MPC legacy', but what we have now bears little connection to what we had in the 80s and early 90s, beyond 16 rubber pads.

Fair enough I understand that but still, they dont have to keep us waiting in suspense only for them to drop a mediocre update here and there, I mean they could really kill the competition (NI) if they put all there effort into the mpc.
I mean the actual hardware is really dope and is a solid build, lets just hope they get the software up to this standard before they stop working on it for some next project. They should hunt down and employ JJ me thinks, one can always dream i guess ;-)

If you want old school AKAI innovation, get a 1000 or 2500 and buy JJOS

They couldn't though. They don't have the man power, customer focus or huge ecosystem of products and sounds to directly compete with NI. It's very much a culture that runs right from the top of the company to the bottom IMO. That's why they are basically the new Behringer, only way less ambitious.

This gets repeated every day around here and is basically wishful thinking. His/their skill set doesn't stretch to this kind of software. He's the embedded OS master though.

It's worth mentioning, the great unsung heroes of all the JJ OS iterations are the users of this forum. They are the ones who have helped shape it from top to bottom. Respect. :smoker:

The people who ARE having issues with Mavericks, what exactly is the problem? I plan on upgrading from Snow Leopard this weekend so I'd like to know what could possibly go wrong.

The only odd thing I get is a weird msg after doing a backup of my HD using an app called Carbon Copy Cloner. Once the backup is finished, I get this odd message but it has no effect on anything.

Issues with Mavericks:

1). Does not play any sound except from MPC software. Not essential, but was there before so a downgrade and what you'd expect from a sound card (which the Ren is in my case - I have no other sound card). Cannot play Spotify, iTunes etc. through Ren.

2) Sample externally from Phono or Mic - sounds fine, until that is you close and restart the MPC software. Then the samples you made have a loud hiss and static behind them. So much so they are totally unusable. This is fundamental. If you cannot sample externally what's the point? My sound is based around this.

Trying to be sympathetic to Akai and the challenges they're facing - but they need to review they're priorities - if they could make current customers happy with existing MPC's they would get more sales. After all, who doesn't browse reviews etc. on the internet before making a purchase? Rather than focussing on punting out new stuff just to maintain face at an industry show.

If I were you I absolutely would not upgrade to Mavericks yet - its not worth the risk. I'm holding out for the patch because MPC is at the heart of my set-up.

If I was sensible and had more time/money/potential I'd give Maschine a go, but I'm old, lazy and stick with the MPC because I know it well (from previous MPCs) and find it easy... or maybe its easy because its an MPC :)

F*ck it, just patch for Mavericks for f*ck's sake how hard can it be...? been 3 months now, could've written the MPC software in that time... maybe it was architected so badly in the first place that's pretty much what they're doing anyway... :fku:

Turned into a rant, apologies

Peace 8)
