Just bought an MP on EBay and was wondering if anyone knows of any issues I should check to make sure everything is on the up. Have been able to load up one pgm but am having issues loading up any others. Am new to the MPC if that helps. It's in mint condition. Cosmetically. Thanks for your help.

If you don't have a manual, go to the top of this forum page, and follow the MPC MANUALS & OS link, to download the MPC2500 Operator's Manual.

Appreciate it. Got some reading up to do. Now for the question about common things that could be bad or wrong with the MP to look for? Thanks for your help.

Most common problem is dirty/failing tact switches under the buttons, where they need more pressure applied to function, over time, as they get dirty.

Other than that, I don't think there are too many common issues.

If you are running the Akai OS, you could make sure it is on the latest version.

There is also the JJOS to consider, which has a free version, which is slightly updated from the Akai OS, and paid versions, which have significant new features and upgrades over the Akai OS.

check left output, usually affects left side on headphones jack simutaneously.

check sample inputs to make sure they work correctly.

make sure pads work and that one pad isnt affecting pad next to it..example if you hit pad 3 it doesnt trigger pad 4. this usually indicates failing pad sensors.

Yeah so I've noticed that sometimes the cursor buttons have to be pushed harder sometimes. Headphone jack seems ok but I can see a problem in the future. Hope not. I'm thinking of buying another 2500 in case this one buys the farm. But everything seems to be good. Pretty easy to get in the swing of things. Yeah I have a Maschine but once I touched this it seems like a toy in comparison. Thanks for your help guys. Oh, as for the tact switches any way to fix that issue. I see they have some parts online not a lot though.

Yeah I believe OS is 1.24 (2008) if I'm not mistaken. Really considering JJOS though. Can you still have folders and pgms in the folders. I read somewhere that navigating files is different.

Some people have luck getting tact switches going by opening the MPC and spraying a little electronic contact cleaner into the switch, but keep it minimal and try not to spray it everywhere, just into the switch itself.

Others desolder the tacts and solder new ones in. If you find the part number for a correct replacement, should be in the forums somewhre, you can buy them a lot cheaper from an electronic parts supplier, rather than from a specialised MPC parts supplier.

Input/output/headphone jack problems 'might' just be dry/cracked solder joints, which 'might' be able to be fixed by just re-flowing (melting) the solder.

Awesome! Really appreciate the information. I went ahead and bought the ebook to go with the manual I got from the link. So that sped up the learning curve. Thanks again!
