from our friends at ableton: "Slaving Live via MIDI Clock can be more CPU intensive mainly due to the fact that the BPM generally jumps by more or less small amounts (can be up to 2 BPM sometimes) by using MIDI Clock. As consequence, plugins using time related data like delays, synths etc will have to recalculate everytime the BPM jumps which results in a higher CPU usage."
