Hi Everyone,
I'm looking at getting an MPC soon and hope I can get some info/opinions from people here.
Why am i getting one? two main reasons... I've used an Emu rack sampler for many years alongside a PC running Sonar (cakewalk originally back in the day). I love my Emu (ducks!) but I need something thats better integrated into my PC for archiving/editing/etc - but i also want something thats more immediate for making beats and getting ideas going.
I'm also lined up to do some live dates next summer & I need something that can play samples and MIDI sequence a small setup. Fpr reliability reasons I dont want a laptop so i'm looking out for hardware that fits the bill.
My idea is to get an Emu 1820m card (with software sampling) and a MPC1000 to go with it, to handle live stuff and bang out beats, but I have some questions...
Can you export MIDI songs from the PC to the MPC1K via USB? I know you can do it track by track thru the MIDI In but it's a bit tedious.
Can the MPC1K generate MIDI sync? Can it slave to a MIDI sync signal?
How immediate is it to mute/unmute sequencer tracks? Can you configure the pads to do this (that would be superb)?
How is the MPCs sequencer with controller info? i dont want to edit it just know it will be played back right.
Generally anyone who has used an MPC to sequence external gear in a live set, it'd be good to hear how it went. And a few other questions...
I've heard a lot about the MPC's special timing 'swing' that makes it groove so good. Do all MPCs do this or just the Roger linn ones? (60 & 3000)
Does anyone run a MPC alongside an SP12/1200? What's the plus/minus of each?
I love the bass on my Emu.. I use a lot of 808 samples & it's important the kick booms properly. A lot of people have told me (ducks LOW!) that Akais arent as good for bass as Emus.. but then again, so many hiphop producers use MPCs and i dont think they'd put up with lightweight bass - so is this true or not? maybe it applys more to akais rack samplers that the MPCs. I'm confused, so help me!
Sorry it's a long list. I dont really have any experience using this type of gear. Any help would be valuble, thanks everyone.
