ok let the heat begin. where is this announcement? i don't want to hear shit about some stupid usb keyboard controller, or over priced headphones. leave the m-audio toys and the alesis crap alone only REN software improvements is what we want to hear.

I truly want this Ren to be what it can. maybe there is a magic world out here that has me loosing the mpc 4000 auctions on ebay all week for a reason.

my finger are crossed. i really hope they pull something out of the nukai hat that is REN related.

That was the real announcement....."new keyboard controllers" yiiipeee !!

sucks I know. It's not looking to good. Hopefully the profits from these new keyboards will buy them time and man power to further along with the development of the REN...inside and out , software and future updates.

They gassed everyone up for keyboard rehashes of mpk's hahaa !!

But maybe positive thinking and patience will win this race.

Sorry bud.. just some usb controllers..
if Akai was smart they would have upgraded the MPD line and made it similar to the m-audio's new trigger finger

that should have been their new product instead of MPC Element

I think the smart move would have been to release these new controllers with full compatibility with the MPC Software. If that's where they are going, it's a smart move IMO, but the way they announced it, it just seems like a roster of disjointed products that are kinda-sorta related, but not completely.

If I were them, I would revolve everything around the software (not Essentials - the flagship software). You favor a keyboard? Use an MPK. You favor traditional MPC? Use Ren or Studio. Either way, the MPC software is intended to be the heart of your rig, or a primary plugin in your DAW.

I would think that would create a stronger perception that they are dedicated to the MPC software long term. But by releasing them and giving them Essentials? That tells me that Essentials is something they are going to continue to put resources on.

Making the software the center of everything just seems like such a marketing / strategic no-brainer to me. Maybe they are heading there, maybe not.

no that was 26 pages of shit midi keyboards, ending in the usual arguments with "Doomass"

a few days ago before the "big Namm Crap out" some one from akai mentioned more then 1.6 will be here at namm. i just ant find quote right now.

i want to hear REN stuff from NAMM in this thread. not keyboards and headphones. let me know if i need to make that clearer for you...

Dude, you don't need to make anything clear. The bottom line is

THERE WAS NO NEW REN TALK AT NAMM!!!!!

There was about as much new Ren talk at NAMM as there was talk of O.S. 3.0 for the MPC 5000.

The keyboards kinda are linked with the ren and studio because of the software

It MIGHT "sound" like a good idea to make everything about the software...BUT

what happens when the software is hacked and cracked and any jo smoe can use the mpc essential software with there mpd or m audio trigger pad or keyboard ?

Putting that software in the bundle with that keyboard is asking for trouble.

Id be pissed seeing some punk kid using the mpc software with an mpd 32
meanwhile you paid how much for a ren....cough cough $1,299 ? why ?

And for the software being hacked...trust me its coming sooner or later. Especially since its shipped with these new keyboard controllers..

what makes the ren/studio special now? Something needs to be exclusive about the ren studio...it was the software...but not anymore. Even though we dont want to focus on the keyboards..we have to now..

And the fact that there was NO NEW TALK at namm about the ren says enough.

Good luck

Yes, by the sounds of what he said, Pete was hoping to have 1.7 to show at NAMM, that he completed coding it the day before, and that it might be shown at NAMM.

Then he mentioned that he didn't know what the product/marketing people would actually show of it at NAMM, if at all.

Since only finished and into beta testing the day before NAMM, it will be a few weeks at least before it is available.

I thought the thing about the Ren that made it special was the hardware controller. There's a ton of different software that can do the things that the software component of the Ren can do. Guru, B.P.M., and Geist just to name a few.

What makes the Ren special is the hardware. It looks and feels like an MPC. Just looking at it is inspiring because of all of the history that the name "MPC" has in the music industry and among hobbyist. I don't think them spreading the software out among it's controllers is that big of a deal. In fact, it may make it more justifiable to the "powers that be" in Akai to keep developing the software, from a financial point of view.
