MPC 4000 pad problem/retrigger

Hi guys,

really love the mpc4000 and so I did service the instrument - changing pad
sensor, encoder, bad switches

but there is still unwanted retriggering the samples, if I play on the pads

with the same program played on a keyboard via Midi, no problem

Does anyone of you have the same troubles?
If you play drums on the pads, it never repeats?

Are you lifting your fingers off the pads after each hit, or not, maybe it is your playing technique, maybe your fingers are bouncing on the pad giving a double trigger, due to leaving your fingers resting on the pad after each hit?

I'm confused. You want it to repeat and it won't? Or vice-versa?

I hardly use the pads on it. Not trying to change the subject just suggesting something to you. Use another controller you love.

I use the Boss DR880 and any of my other keyboards to trigger the 4000. Keyboards to me are just easier to work with because I'm used to playing piano. I just find that the layout (keyboard) makes more sense. I never really looked closely at how the pads are laid out but I notice that middle C for example tends to be in pad bank C ( or something like that).

Just an FYI the DR880 is a PHENOMENAL controller because it is laid out like a guitar. So using it and a keyboard means you have two great ways to trigger you mpc logically.

PS I haven't had a double triggering problem. To me the mpc4000 pads seem stiff. I don't find it has great feel. I know others complain about the pads on it.

1., thanks for your input - yes, I am pressing the pads a bit
longer that the pads would be touched with drumsticks - but for the playing
feel it´s the right way for me - the interesting point is: do the pads on other
mpcs 4000 behave the same as mine or can I improve the triggering with say other
rubber pads - the sensor pad has been changed already

2., another question is the syncing with the DAW
I tried SND acme4 and will test innerclock syncgen, but there is no SongPosition
Pointer in the signal, these machines send to the mpc - that means, taht you have
always to start from the beginning of a song

mh, music could last for 40 min, and it´s not possible to always start from the
beginning
I tried with SMPTE signal, which works fine, sometimes the mpc sounds a little bit
sloppy

any ideas/experiences?

it is very common for new user of the mpc 4000 to double trigger the pads.

If you look back through this very forum you will find a number of threads with this perceived problem as the topic.

If you just keep using the machine, and try not to double trigger he pads, then you will train your body how to use the machine properly.

You do not have to always start at the beginning of a song. I you midiclock or synctrack between the mpc4000 and my roland vs recorders. You can start anywhere you want.

I am using ProTools HD Native on Mac OSX10.6.8

Midiclock doesn´t have SPP (SongPositionPointer), so usually you have to start from the beginning or type the exact bar number in both sequencers - which is very exhausting to do

I would wish a setup like the older ADATs worked

SMPTE for SongPositionPointer
Wordclock for sample accurate sync

this is not possible with a DAW and mpc4000 -

so the most accurate way would be MidiClock
with Innerclock SyncGen -
but no SPP

so SMPTE with framerate 30 as an Audio Signal in your DAW is a workaround
it also has SPP and controls the mpc
I did the Litmus test, David and Innerclock uses, and the results are
not as exact with Smpte, but your workflow is useable

The DAW must be the master, otherwise the whole Playback struggles

if there is a better idea, please let me know

I have successfully synchronized my MPC4000 with ProTools (PT as master, 4K as slave) and did so by utilizing Midi Time Code. You have to set up tempo changes (if applicable) manually but otherwise the 4K will follow nicely.

furthermore, the 4K can send/receive Midi Machine Control. It is a rather comprehensive machine in regards to external sync.

Experiencing the same double trigger aswell.
Don't have the issue on my Maschine nor on the 'inferior' MpcFly.

It's a shame really ......
