Have you submitted a bug report either directly to Akai or here in a Bug Report thread? You are reporting an issue that not many forum members are experiencing.

Hi i have tried with various settings with external instruments to crash the mpc changing the sequence but the ren doesn t crash.

i have the ren connected via MIDI cable to my emu emax i also have the minibrute connected via USB to my pc.. there is also a novation sl connected (host also two midi outs )and also a multiface 2 which also have a midi interface.

if made 2 sequences

track1)a sample drumkit
track2)emax plays the trumpet
track3)minibrute synth

if i change the sequence it stays it don t crash..

do i have to do anything else to reconstruct your ren crashing bug ?

i m using win 7 with 64bit ren with no internet connected i use the ren asio driver for the ren

All good, just trying to help you narrow down the problem, so maybe you can get it working better, or so that maybe you can identify the problem, and have something more detailed to ask Akai to fix.

Start out simple, just the Renaissance MIDI outputs to the 4 synths you want to use it, no MIDI outputs from the synths back into the Renaissance, MOTUs unplugged, and see how it goes.

Then you could start adding the MOTUs back in for your other gear, in other applications, and possibly leave those 4 synths plugged into the Renaissance, if they do end up working OK like that.

They could still be accessed from other applications, when you wanted to, using the Renaissance MIDI interface for those 4 synths, rather than the MOTUs.

All suggestions taken onboard thanks. Just too many cables and ducking in behind stuff to unplug a ton of cables. Taken me a week after moving house to get stuff set back up! For the moment all is ok and no crashes Won't submit a bug report to Akai yet, as everybody's set up is so different it is hard to identify where the problem lies, and so far there are so many suggestions and troubleshooting tips that can be tried. I reckon the problem lay in having some equipment coming from the OUTS on the Ren was on the same midi channel and also my 2000xl synced on channel 1, and this caused a midi feedback loop, leading to crashing. Thats my suspicion anyway……
So fingers crossed…

cheers fellas. 1.7 looks good :-)

8 hours studio time today and no crashes. Touchwood

Seemingly my frustrations with Akai have temporarily left, like the proberbial Elvis from the building.

So how stable is external midi sequencing on Ren?

I'm thinking of retiring my trusty 3000 for sequencing/syncing my various modules & drum machines for full DAW integration, but I wanna keep the hardware MPC workflow.

How tight is external sequencing/sync using the 4 built-in midi OUTS? pad mutes & solos function as expected? no jitter/latency?

After some messing around I am all set. I have no jitter or latency but maxed out the RAM on my computer. I have had no crashes so far after tinkering with it. Some stuck midi notes but that could be external equipment not the Ren. The timing for me never sways but I sill trust midi clock with my mpc2000xl. I was keen to sell it but glad I didn't. Never used a 3000 so can't comment. Pleased with the clock and sequencing so far
