Technical questions for the MPC2000xl and the MPC2000

Hey what's going on. Just signed up to this message board and look forward to helping as much as I can. This is a great place to get mpc answers. With that being said, I have just acquired a mpc 2000xl that seems to be in superb condition. The unit is almost new. When I then the unit on.. All it says is please wait.. and I can see the main screen in the back ground. Nothing happens. I tried to remove the ram. . Nothing. Effects board. . No go.8 outs. .. nope. Still the same. I can't get past this screen no matter what. The person I got it from said the main board is blown. ..I over looked the board and everything seems brand new. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Welcome to the forum. TBH, if the seller told you the main board was blown then that's where I'd start a close inspection. Look for anything obvious, make sure all connectors are pushed in correctly. The 'waiting' message often occurs when the XL cannot locate a primary disk (floppy, external drive etc). Perhaps the built in floppy (or CF reader, or zip drive) is faulty.

Beyond that, unless you know what you are doing, you'll need to take it to an expert.

Thank you for the fast reply. I do infact repair these units on a regular basis...but i have never encountered this problem. usually removing the ram solves this. But, indeed, i did check over the main board and everything seems to be in order. No bulging caps, no burned anything. I actually have a disk drive from a 2000 classic that i do know it works. i will attempt to give that drive a shot and see what happens. It just puzzles me as to why he knows its the blown motherboard...i asked him and he said that thats what the repairman told him and when he was told the repair price, he decided to just sell it to me. I am wondering if this was just something said to the person who sold it to me, to try to make a few bucks on an easy repair or a legitamate board issue. i wish i had another 2000xl in my shop..i would actually go buy another one just to find out whats going on. thanks again.
