How can I get this MIDI setup to work?

This is hard to explain so I'm going to break it down to very simple terms.

Here's what I have:
MPC2000XL
Roland Juno106
RedSound Dark Star Synth

I've been using the Juno with the MPC for a while now and it works flawlessly. I have it connected to MIDI port A on the MPC. I just bought the Dark Star (which doesn't have a keyboard, so it needs to be connected to a MIDI controller in order for notes to be played) and it works fine with the MPC when connected to MIDI port B. The only thing is, obviously, I can't play the notes off the Dark Star unless I have the Juno connected to it.

Here's my question: how can I connect all 3 units and be able to have the Juno as the MIDI controller for the Dark Star and at the same time still be able to use the Juno on it's own (e.g. triggering sequences from the MPC)? Like if I have a sequence playing on the MPC triggering the Juno and at the same time I want to manually play the Dark Star on a separate track, but use the Juno as the controller. I've tried a few different setups, but what happens is when I'm controlling the Dark Star with the Juno, notes on the Juno are being played at the same time. Do I need to buy another midi controller or can this whole thing be accomplished with the existing 3 pieces. One thing I've been doing as an acceptable work around is to record the track with the Juno then just assign the recorded track to the Dark Star. Although this works fine in the end, I still want to be able to accomplish my previous request.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Even if it can't be done, I just want to know so that I don't lose any more sleep over it.

Normally synths are set to `local off` for this very issue, but the Juno106 has no local off. The Juno is a great keyboard but makes a very poor controller for this very reason. The only real work around is turn down the volume on the Juno.

it's easy,

connect the juno to in & out A, then connect the darkstar to out B (and in B if you want to record tweeks via midi)

go to rhe midi ment, set soft thru to on, the on the track you want the DS to be played on, set the track to 1B and to midi ( not drum) now play your keyboard and hear the DS,

no local off, turn the volume down when using it to control.

MPC3k..........you know how to work the triton/mpc setup?

Thanks for all tips. Unfortunately, MPC3000 is right. Now I remember from other synths I've had that I do need the "local off" control in order to accomplish what I wanted to.

elmacaco - I will try what you suggested. At least with the setup you recommended I don't have to plug and unplug MIDI cables to control the DS.

If anyone else has more suggestions I'm all ears (or rather, all eyes).
