Round Robin Pad Cycle video

Here is the video of the Round Robin pad trigger method. It is a very useful method to add randomization.
@Clint are you the person that first broke it down? If so nice one.

Once you realize how to use the sliders and knobs efficiently then the world opens up.

Nice, Can you set up pad velocity to trigger the zone select?

Can you guys explain a little more on the x-fade and zone x-fade in the program menu.

What happens when you set the q link range to -100?

A few things I have noticed. Page 222 of the manual talks about using velocity or whatever to change zones. What was described in the video and taken from the tips and tricks thread was written more in-depth than what you see in the manual.

X fade linear is how the volume will increase, in this case a slanted straight line. If Exponential then it will have a curve and not be a steady increase like linear. Logarithmic is the other choice.

Zone x fade is literally like a crossfader on a mixer. If you want the sounds to slightly play over each other then you set the values to overlap. Choices are real-time and velocity.

PS "I used to own an Octatrack which had triggers you could assign to the crossfader. I am trying to wrap my head fully around this but I am sure it is the same thing as this but with only four zones. Which makes me then wonder how we can maybe switch pad banks via midi, and possibly be able to add even more sounds on the fly."

very cool. thanks for the walk-through. i've said it before and i'll say it again: MPC4000 is a monster.

The octatrack thing, just create another keygroup with different velocities than your previous keygroup. More zones. Assign to the same midi channel. No need to physically route the midi cable, if I understand you correctly.

The manual does not explain everything. Ill be on the 4ooo in a few days. Will try out some round robin stuff. Something I never use, but maybe I can start.

Nice work with the videos though Ian, helps the visual learners out there.

The MPC4000 has endless possibilities that other MPC's simply don't have. Decide what it is you want to achieve with the machine, and then figure out how to use the inbuilt features/tools to get there. It's often a process of trial and error, the manual only gives functional direction. The user must understand the functions and be creative in order to manipulate them successfully.

Long lives the MPC 4000! Like you guys pointed out, endless possibilities. The 4k has a treasure trove of goodies just waiting to be found.
