Sub-forum for discussion about the DAWs and mobile apps that you use with your MPCs

Hi there,

I have an MPC 1000, JJOS2XL and I'm using Cuabse 5.5.3. The MPC MIDI in and out are connected to my Focusrite.

I'd like to use my MPC to record and play back sounds into Cubase i.e. Press record in Cubase, perform drum beat on MPC (using MPC sounds) then playback from cubase.

Sounds simple enough and when I do the same with my OP-1 or Microbrute I simply select a MIDI track, select the desired device as the MIDI in and out, then record and play back.

With the MPC however I'm getting a MIDI loop causing double notes. This occurs only when hitting the pads and I'm assuming this is because I'm hearing the note played from the MPC and Cubase simultaneously, but because I've never had this issue with any other device I can't seem to solve it.

I've used this forum loads since I purchased my MPC over a month ago and it's been an invaluable knowledge base. I've had a good search but for this specific issue I can't seem to find a definitive answer.

Many thanks!

PS - A simple workaround is to not have the MPC selected as a MIDI out until after I've recorded but that removes the option to overdub when recording in Cubase.

I think I've found a solution: In Cubase go to File: Preferences: MIDI and un-tick "MIDI Thru Active".

No more double notes when hitting the pads on MPC and I am able to record/overdub and playback just fine.

Not sure if the MIDI Thru Active setting will affect anything else in my setup/workflow but for now it seems to do the trick.

Hope this helps anyone else with similar issues.

Cheers!

Ok so the above method of disabling "Midi Thru Active" is only really a solution if you're just going to be using the MPC with internal sounds and no other MIDI devices/sound modules. Disabling "Midi Thru Active" renders most other devices inactive.

If I can figure out a method of having "Midi Thru Active" disabled on just one channel for the MPC I'll be sure to post the solution here.

For now I'm having to switch the Channel outputs constantly for recording/playback to avoid MIDI feedback which is a bit of a pain.

Other option is to use MIDI keyboard to trigger the MPC but I love performing on those pads too much.

If anyone else has experience with this issue I'd love to hear from you.

Thanks!
