I got lucky today. After being outbid, I was sure I'd find myself in a last-minute bidding war. But after I reached the $150 mark, everyone else decided not to persue it.

I still never used the eb16 before, and never heard how it sounds either. But after talking to Lampdog and a few others here, I was convinced that it was gonna be worth it, even at their current prices. There seems to be a few different effects on the eb16 that were never available on the 1000's built in effects, like the distortion. Off hand, I can't recall all the differences. But I do recall the eb16 having a lot more capability than the 1k's built in effects. I'm gonna have a lot of fun with it.

the multiband filter is useful, the distortion is sort of like an overdrive, not like a bit reducer... so it can be really useful if a sample is too low and you can't seem to get it high enough. that solves the issue. the fx are mono except the delay and I think the mod has some stereo shit in there too. the rest are mono fx.

the reverb is nice to use as a send for samples.. like strings and stuff... having that R1 and R1 is super useful... you can set one up that is more in the high frequencies to send for your samples.. one more in the mids for the hats and maybe the snare... but then you can still use the MFX for other stuff.

versatile for a built in card... but don't expect it to be ultra high end.

The eb16 is great, I remember the feeling when I installed it and realised how convenient it was going to be to have all those effects inside my XL and not having to set up my old external hardware multieffects all the time. Of course nowadays that doesn't seem like a big deal, but it was then.

It's not hi end, but it's all usable.

Glad to hear some good responses about the EB16. I got to hear some of the reverb earlier from Mr Debauch. It sounded just like I expected. Not bad for late '90s DSP technology. I'm sure all the effects should be satisfying enough, the more I hear about it.

The EB16 forced me into the world of plugins in the search for decent quality effects (early 2000s), which I'm thankful for.

Those were the days… burning samples from the 2KXL directly onto CD, then transferring them to my Dad's clapped-out old PC so I could add effects from a really old version of Waves, then burnt back onto CD and sampled again.

yeah, I think I like the eb16 because it's not forced on me... I don't need that reverb to get reverb on a sound... it's like cassette.... when I needed it to record stuff, I didn't like the noise. now that I spent years with digital recorders I like adding the noise with a pluggin or running stuff onto tapes.

it's a great element that adds an avenue of sound designing on the mpc without having to drag out external stuff.

That's what I like about it, as well as saving all the effects parameters in the MPC to continue experimenting. I'm definitely looking forward to next week when it arrives.

I'm still exploring. But so far I'm really impressed. These effects sound a lot better than I expected. The routing capabilities are brilliant compared to how limited the MPC1000's internal effects are.... and these sound a hell of a lot better too. With everything this card has to offer, I'm glad to say that while the MPC2000 is limited compared to a JJ OS machine, the EB16 really opens the doors to a lot more sound shaping in the way that I'm looking for. I see LOTS of potential to create TONS of samples from what I already have. I'm sitting here with an 808 kit, mangling the hell out of it. I gotta get back to this and post more details later. My MPC is complete (aside from that ultra-rare flash rom).
