OSX app for 1.44 mg FAT12 usb drive formatting?

Hi this is my first post here, picked up a 2000 classic recently and am wanting to make a backup of the OS usb drive that came with this wonderful machine.

I'm aware you can format these on older versions of windows, but am wondering if there is a floppy formatting tool available for mac osx? I've downloaded HxC floppy emulator but it doesn't seem to do what I'm after....also tried formatting internally with the MPC but no luck there either. has anyone successfully done this on a mac? did a search here and not much seems to come up.....any help or clues would be greatly appreciated, peace.

failing that....I have access to a windows machine, if it's easier on that how would I go about it?

install the USB drive on the windows machine and copy everything to the PC. Plug and play on Windows XP, should be no problem.

Don't format the disc. You'll erase everything on there.

I realise that, I mean do I format the USB key that I will be copying my OS onto?, to clarify, I'm trying to create a backup of the USB stick containing the mpc OS that I currently have.

The backup disc you'll be using needs to be formatted in the MPC.

I originally did that method (format USB stick on MPC) then copied the OS files onto the stick with my mac, I'd read somewhere here that it put invisible files on there as well though. mpc couldn't read it when I tried that anyway, will report back once I get access to my friends windows machine.

yep was just about to post back my results. you are correct, used the MPC to format the destination USB stick, then did an OS copy in the box from the disk window. that was easy. thanks guys.
