Recording vocals.. (MPC Ren users)

I was curious to know if anyone here lays down vocals to their beats using a mic plugged straight into the Ren?

I have a pretty simple setup, MPC Ren, mixer, turntable, and usually mix in PT/Logic, but I just recently purchased a SM7B (I don't really have a soundproofed room etc) and want to plug it straight into the MPC Ren...but how would I go about recording a verse for example?

How do you record a verse? Plug your mic in, open your DAW of choice, and press record, start rhyming

you wont be able to record the "audio track" directly into the ren but you can use your ren as your "soundcard" in your DAW and still kinda do what your trying to accomplish

Or convert your sequences in one big sequence press rec sample, make sure sounds only come through your headphone, check if the microphone input is selected and works, set the sample time for 120 seconds, press record(f6 I believe) press play from start, do your vocal, press stop, and keep, go to sample edit trim till its right, chop it up if u think that's handy, go to main screen press record hit the pad when your vocal should start.........

..(this is extremely far from ideal,same goes for sampling external synth although the midi works fine, its a b*tch making sure its trimmed perfectly in order to sound right on beat in playback, that's why I rather won't chop, then all your chops should be placed perfect.....but it is sort of possible...but better to wait until audio tracks are implentend.
until then better to use some other daw)

this probably IS his daw.....as I also wish I did not need to use other software...fortunately i still have reaper and reason 6.5...
He might not......

Hopefully Direct Recording/Record Event is added soon, which will add this functionality, while waiting for full audio tracks.

@InspectahEX lol. this is the mpc forums no? Where I thought people can ask questions and help each other out, no need to be a smartass because I've never recorded audio from a mic before, this is my first mic.

You don't need a soundproof room. All you need is something behind the mic to prevent your voice from echoing into the room and back into the mic. Pair that up with some good headphones and you can get some quality vocals!

Did I not answer your question? why are u in the mpc forums if you are on your first mic and never used a mic before? go research audio interfaces/recording/daws.... ya know?

Your topic is not really on the mpc renaissance, its more about "how do i use this mic and record a verse"

the mpc is not a multi track audio sequencer, you should have researched that before you bought it, just saying... and stop being sensitive.

also why would you be even attempting to record vocals into the Ren (unless for beat purposes) when you already have Logic AND Pro Tools????

Why do you have to use Logic or Pro Tools to record vocals, why wouldn't you want to record into the Renaissance, when you have MPC Software?

...because MPC Software is not up to the task, yet, despite more than 2 years of development, and after being marketed as a DAW.

I think it is a perfectly reasonable, and logical, expectation.

It should allow synchronised recording of audio along with an MPC sequence, either as new MPC samples with Direct Recording/Record Event, or with audio tracks. Not just for recording vocals, but for recording any instrument in sync with an MPC sequence, including turning external MIDI tracks into internal MPC samples.

It even has an example in the MPC Software manual of how to record vocals directly into MPC Software, of course though, not in sync with the MPC sequence that you are singing/rhyming along to.

Locking yourself into a linear sequence/sequencer, to allow you to record synchronised audio into a DAW, is a weak workaround in a sequence based sequencer like an MPC. Adding to that weakness is the single MIDI output port available from the MPC Software plugin.

well I never heard of an mpc with DAW style audio tracks... until they add them or confirm they are being added I don't expect them to be

and why would I use Logic or Protools over the Ren? because the Ren doesn't even have audio tracks to begin with, meanwhile thats what logic and protools are made for

They can just be looked at as MPC samples, and sequenced/chopped/etc. in the MPC sequencer/sampler as well, like all the other audio that you work with in the MPC, they do not necessarily have to be locked into linear DAW audio tracks in a synchronised DAW.

Really, at a basic level, vocal takes on a DAW audio track are no different to any other audio sample within the MPC.

Hopefully we get the Direct Recording/Record Event feature, from the MPC2500 and MPC5000, into MPC Software, soon, while waiting for full audio tracks for those who need them...

Why record anything into Logic/Pro Tools when you already have, and are using, an MPC?

Should use the DAW for everything in that case, bin the MPC!
