Korg Volca

It would randomly act as if random buttons were pressed. For example, trying to mute a track, it would instead mute everything, stop the sequence, and enter slide edit mode.

It was pretty infrequent, but of course it always seemed to happen right in the middle of recording some live twiddling...

Thanks for the info. I'll keep this in mind when I buy one, and I'll make sure to save everything (box, receipt, etc.) if I ever need a warranty replacement.

So, I went from excited, to not so impressed, and now I think it is a solid unit and a good purchase for the money. In this video I am just messing around, it was unrehearsed, and I have connected the Volca Beats, Boss GT-10B, the Behringer BSY600 (bass synth guitar effects pedal) and the Boss RE-20 space echo.

I connected the GT-10B because I wanted to use the compression pedal (CS-3) in it. Just know that you can make the Volca really hit with some good compression. I don't go into it in the video but the added reverb and effects sounds great.

I can just imagine the beauty if it was linked to an LA2A tube compressor.

The volca was probably conceived three or four years ago, computers are now powerful and small. Yes people want analog but we also want features. I stopped using it because of the lack of features. Then like a person who returns to faith after shunning it, I began to appreciate it for what it is at its core.
THAT journey has made me look at much of my gear differently now. The mistake was not the volca's lack of a long release, or in depth midi functions, thee problem was just me. We grow...

I set my expectations low so I've been very happy. I agree you have to learn to apprentice the limitations. I do suggest getting at least one. My recommendation the Bass, it will surprise you.

Bad A$$ Sounds great

The Beats have been good to me once I made an MPC template for it. Super nice bread & butter drum sounds that can be layered with samples without thinkin' about it. YUSSS!

I was quick to do the same when I first got the Beats, between layering both machines in the mix as well as sampling it with a hot signal into the MPC2K. It really goes to show how much fun can be had with 2 fairly simple pieces of gear... and the fun continues when my EB16 arrives. I should be getting the adapter that sciguy recommended as well. So tonight I'll be able to do a hell of a lot more sampling.

I'm not sure why but my Beats template didn't work for my friend on his MPC. The same one that I uploaded here... wonder if it worked for anyone else. I'm thinkin' I need to remake it and upload it again...

Sad day. Alrighty then, I'll go pick the MPC up from the studio and sit down to fuxx with it all. I'll get it figured out and re-upload to this thread.

Synthrotek has a DIY analog delay which would go well with the Volca Beats and Bass.

The Behringer vintage delay pedal is also based on the same PT2399 delay chip as that synthrotek one. And it's only $25.

Sure, I suppose maybe it might be lower quality (I don't know though) but the chip used to process the delay is lo-fi to begin with, so better pre/post amp circuits don't really do much in the end anyway.

It can also be modded; the most basic "mod" would be simply drilling holes into certain spots on the top face of it, to access some little tiny trimmer potentiometers that you can adjust with a screwdriver, to extend the delay speed range, and alter the tone some.

I should look into the Behringer and the DOD pedal someone else mentioned in the comments. But still, I gotta grab the Synthrotek kit for $24. It's gonna sound dope with the Speak & Spell too.
